My Bias Is Showing?! is a Korean BL series about a high school teacher and his celebrity crush. The main character is shocked when his favourite pop star announces he'll be filming a new project with him.

My Bias Is Showing?! is a Korean BL series about a high school teacher who meets his celebrity crush. The main character is a devoted fan of a popular idol whose music helped him through hard times. His obsession borders on extreme, yet he hides it from everyone. One day, the protagonist is shocked when the pop star shows up at his school. He's even more surprised to learn that his idol will be filming a new project with him.

With a quirky premise and lighthearted humour, My Bias Is Showing starts strongly. I appreciate how the actors bring their characters to life. I also love the high production values, which remain consistently polished throughout the series. However, I never connected with the lead couple. They constantly hide their true personalities around each other, making the romance feel less genuine. They also don't share much chemistry together.

Plot

Siyeol kisses Aejoon on the cheek.

Aejoon is a language teacher at Nabit High School. A few years ago, he struggled to find work. He felt demoralized as every job interview rejected him. At his lowest point, he listened to Pure Love, a song by Korean idol Siyeol. The music lifted his spirits. Coincidentally, he found a new job shortly after. Since then, Aejoon has associated Siyeol with motivation and positivity. He became a massive fan of Siyeon, filling his room with posters and merchandise.

Now happily employed, Aejoon hides his fandom at work. He even stays quiet when other teachers mention Siyeol or his group, A-One. Aejoon fears his coworkers wouldn't be understanding. They may judge him for supporting an idol, which he sees as unprofessional behaviour. Aejoon values his job and wants to avoid doing anything that might risk it. Inside, he's still a diehard fanboy. Aejoon jokes that he's "cosplaying as a normal person" while at work.

One day, Aejoon is shocked when Siyeol shows up at his school. Siyeol is filming a new reality show called Go! School Teacher, where he pretends to work on campus. The production team wants a real teacher to guide him as he learns the job. Siyeol surprises everyone by choosing Aejoon and calling him "his type." Aejoon feels flustered at the thought of working so closely with his favourite idol. He nervously accepts the opportunity.

Aejoon goes home and shares the news with Kyusung, his roommate. Kyusung works as the manager of A-One, the group that Siyeol is part of. Occasionally, Kyusung's agency sends him to manage the idols, so he's familiar with them. Yet, Kyusung had no idea Siyeol would take this project, since the idol had turned it down before and changed his mind without warning. Aejoon panics about how to act around Siyeol. Ultimately, he chooses not to reveal his fandom or his connection to Kyusung. He wants to keep their work dynamic as professional as possible.

A-One is a popular idol group. They recently made a comeback after spending three years out of the spotlight. Their new song is a hit. Jooha is a former member who left to pursue a career in acting, although he and Siyeol remain close friends. The two met in middle school. They were roommates as trainees. Recently, Jooha was heartbroken after being dumped by his secret boyfriend. He cannot move on from his relationship, and Siyeol feels bad for him.

My Bias Is Showing Review

Review

Drama Review Score: 7.1

C+
Aejoon and Siyeol become a couple.

I have a positive first impression of My Bias Is Showing. The premiere feels cheerful and quirky, checking all my boxes for a lighthearted BL romcom. The story has a funny scenario, since the protagonist must work with his secret celebrity crush. Also, the cinematography looks fancy. Bright colours, warm lighting, and stylish close-up shots work in harmony to create gorgeous visuals. This opening episode is packed with razzle-dazzle, and the production team clearly worked hard on polishing every scene.

As the story unfolds, I still enjoy the goofy humour and high production values. The biggest surprise comes in Episode 4, which drops a bombshell on the audience. Oh, it's major! It reveals that Siyeol has hidden motives, changing how you view his relationship with Aejoon. A simple romance between a celebrity and a teacher turns more complex (and dare I say, more evil?) This juicy plot twist had me clapping and cackling. I love the drama. I live for the mess. 🤭 While the twist is fun, I think Siyeol's plan sounds ridiculous. It's a dumb idea that can easily backfire on him. What the hell is he thinking!?

After a while, this couple isn't clicking for me. Their scenes together feel awkward and devoid of chemistry. I don't get butterflies when watching them. Those butterflies never leave their cocoons! A part of the issue comes from Aejoon's nerves. Initially, seeing him get starstruck over his celebrity crush was endearing. When his behaviour continues a few episodes later, I just want him to relax. Aejoon seems more at ease with his friend, Kyusung. They crack jokes, tease each other, and speak their minds. Their natural rapport is better than how tense Aejoon becomes around Siyeol.

Another issue is that Aejoon and Siyeol don't act like themselves when together. They keep tiptoeing around each other, bottling up their thoughts and emotions. Both hide their real personalities behind facades, and their phoniness also makes the romance feel less genuine. You claim to be in love, yet you're guarded around your partner and don't trust him enough to share your secrets. You're not keeping it 100. More like 10% honesty and 90% fake persona. This couple spends too much time pretending instead of getting to know one another, so their relationship feels shallow.

Aejoon's actor (Kevin) is good at being bubbly, keeping the mood light with his bright smiles and warm expressions. His co-star (Kim Kang Min) looks poised, yet he shows enough subtle emotion to convey his character's inner conflict. While both leads deliver solid performances, they lack a spark together. It could be the way the romance was written, but their relationship scenes feel bland. The secondary couple also leaves little impression, mostly because they don't receive a lot of screentime. Kyusung and Jooha's storyline is treated as an afterthought.

Near the end, Siyeol's secret scheme drags on for too long. The drama grows too serious, overshadowing the lighthearted humour. This storyline has always felt absurd, and I wish it weren't such a massive part of the series. While the finale gives both couples happy endings, it rushes through a few plot developments that deserved more focus. Aejoon quits his job, for example. Oh? Why didn't this significant career change get more emphasis? Overall, My Bias Is Showing leaves me unsatisfied. It starts strong, but the story ultimately disappoints me as it progresses.

Summary

Ridiculous story

My Bias Is Showing begins with a fun premise. After a shocking plot twist in Episode 4, the drama becomes absurd. If this storyline were a piece of rope, there would be too many knots to untangle.

Phony romance

The leads lack chemistry. Aejoon also seems too nervous around Siyeol. Neither character reveals their true personalities to each other, and their phoniness makes the romance feel less genuine.

Solid acting

Aejoon's actor (Kevin) seems bubbly with his bright smiles and warm expressions. His co-star (Kim Kang Min) conveys Siyeol's inner conflict well. However, they don't have much of a spark as a couple.

Happy ending

My Bias Is Showing has a happy ending for both couples. However, the finale rushes several major plot developments, which deserve more focus than just a quick throwaway scene near the end.

Fancy artistry

The visuals look fancy! Each episode comes with bright colours, warm lighting, and stylish close-up shots. The production values remain consistently high throughout the series.

71%

My Bias Is Showing starts with charm, humour, and high production values. However, I never connected with the romance. The couple lacks chemistry and doesn't seem genuine around each other.
