Falling for My Boss – Series Review & Episode Guide

Falling for My Boss is a Korean BL series about a flower shop owner and his two employees.

Falling for My Boss is a short Korean BL series about a love triangle in a flower shop. The main character runs a small business selling flowers. He's wary of workplace romances after a relationship scandal ruined his previous job. When the protagonist notices his staff flirting with each other, he becomes alarmed and intervenes. His actions create a hilarious misunderstanding, leading one of his employees to believe the boss has a secret crush on him.

I enjoyed the short, sweet, and simple love story in Falling for My Boss. Most of the narrative flows smoothly, from the lighthearted misunderstandings at the beginning to the sensitive drama near the end. The actors give solid performances that make their characters endearing. However, the plot isn't particularly ambitious and keeps the romance surface-level. The vertical filming format also limits the atmosphere and artistry.

Plot

Lee Jun is a flower shop owner.

Yi Jun owns Jude Flowers, a small but thriving flower shop. His first employee, Hye Won, is someone he met during an online class. Although still uncertain about her career goals, Hye Won is determined not to date until she makes progress in her work. Yi Jun appreciates her attitude and decides to hire her. As the store gets busier, Hye Won feels overwhelmed by the workload. Around two months ago, Yi Jun hired a second part-time employee, Eun Ho, to help.

After hiring Eun Ho, Hye Won casually mentions her colleague's attractiveness. Yi Jun becomes paranoid, suspecting his two employees might be dating. He starts noticing subtle signs that they are flirting with each other. In his last workplace, Yi Jun saw the chaos that unfolded when the previous owner had relationships with three employees. Witnessing how love can ruin a business's reputation, he's determined not to let the same thing happen at his shop.

Yi Jun feels he can't directly ask his employees if they are dating, worried it might affect morale or overstep his boundaries as their boss. However, his suspicions grow when Hye Won accidentally leaves behind a Polaroid picture. Her photo shows Eun Ho with a heart drawn underneath, leading Yi Jun to believe she has a crush on Hye Won. Determined to prevent a workplace romance from forming, Yi Jun decides to intervene before things escalate.

When Eun Ho catches Yi Jun looking at the Polaroid picture, he misunderstands the situation. He thinks his boss might have a crush on him. His suspicions seem confirmed when Yi Jun reacts strongly every time Eun Ho and Hye Won interact. Yi Jun avoids letting them be alone together and even sends Hye Won on delivery runs to keep her away from the shop. Eun Ho interprets these actions as jealousy, unaware of Yi Jun's real intentions. Eun Ho now wonders if he could reciprocate these feelings for his boss.

Falling for My Boss Review

Review

Drama Review Score: 7.1

C+
Lee Jun and Eun Ho hug in Falling for My Boss.

Falling for My Boss is a short, sweet, and well-written BL drama. In just 40 minutes, it delivers a clear and engaging story. The plot starts strong, quickly introducing the leads and their love triangle. It mixes humour and romance in the middle, builds tension toward the climax, and wraps up with a cute conclusion. Every part flows smoothly, and the characters react sensibly to events. Despite its simple premise, the cohesive writing makes Falling for My Boss more enjoyable than many longer or higher-budget series.

The story begins with a cute little love mix-up. The protagonist is a shop owner who misconstrues his employees' friendship for a flirtation. Meanwhile, one of his staff also misreads the dynamics and thinks his boss harbours a secret crush on him. Everyone has the wrong idea about each other, creating hilarious confusion in their interactions. The first half of the series entertains you with funny situations or ambiguously romantic moments. The writing is clever, the tone feels lighthearted, and the budding relationship delivers everything you'd want from a BL romcom.

Although the misunderstandings are amusing, Falling for My Boss knows when to raise the stakes. The second half transitions smoothly from lighthearted antics to sensitive drama. Timing is crucial in storytelling, especially for a 40-minute narrative, and the series gets it right. The tension develops steadily, reaching a climax where the characters must confront their feelings. Their emotional responses feel believable and align naturally with the story. This well-executed pacing keeps you invested, wanting to see how everything resolves by the end.

Yi Jun's actor (Park Sang Hun) is an expressive lead. He gives funny reactions during the comedic moments, especially when his character gets flustered by the love triangle. Despite the humour, he shows enough restraint to avoid becoming a caricature. Yi Jun still comes across as a credible boss. His co-star (Baek Jeong Hun) adds personality to Eun Ho with deadpan delivery and dry wit. Near the end, his subtle vulnerability makes you want to root for him. Hye Won's actress (Son Na Ra) brings grace and sophistication, rounding out the cast beautifully.

Falling for My Boss is vertically filmed, burdened by an awkward format that ruins the viewing experience. The cramped visuals restrict the artistry, making it impossible to create the enchanting atmosphere a love story needs. Even compared to similar reel dramas, this series still feels more low-budget and less ambitious. It only uses one or two filming locations, hardly venturing outside the shop. While the cinematography is steady, it's far from creative. The vertical format sucks no matter what, but Falling for My Boss doesn't make the most out of its limitations.

Falling for My Boss ends happily as Yi Jun and Eun Ho clarify their feelings for each other. While it's a sweet conclusion, I want more content. This series only feels like the beginning of a longer love story, but it ends before the relationship can grow. We don't see how the couple interacts after they start dating. Overall, the series plays it too safely and lacks ambition. It can't compete against BL projects with bigger productions, hotter romances, or more complex narratives. Regardless, Falling for My Boss is a decent drama that tells a charming story in just 40 minutes.
