Sweet Blood is a Korean BL short drama about a vampire prince who loses his powers after drinking a human's blood. The main character is a university student who discovers that he has a rare blood type. One night, he gets into an accident and loses a lot of blood. Drawn to the sweet scent, a vampire drinks from his body and immediately feels sick. Once he realizes that his powers are gone, he needs the human's help to get them back.
Unlike many generic BL dramas, I love that Sweet Blood has so much creativity. The story keeps getting weirder with its supernatural twists. Also, the series is quite funny. Forget the brooding vampire stereotype! Instead, this protagonist is such a goofball. Sadly, the short episodes rush through all the important plots. Even the romance is underdeveloped. The relationship feels like two friends hanging out than a couple falling in love.

Plot
Minu discovers he has sweet blood.

Minu is just a regular university student trying to survive classes and his part-time job. Lately, his friends have become interested in vampire lore. According to urban legend, the vampire king once fell in love with a human woman. The king became so smitten that he banned everyone from drinking human blood. His two sons have very different personalities. Luciel is the serious pure-blood heir, while his younger brother Lucifer is a rebellious half-vampire. In fact, Lucifer has quite the reputation for drinking human blood.
There's also a spooky event called the Red Moon happening tonight. Every few hundred years, a total lunar eclipse opens a doorway between the vampire world and the human world. For a special night, vampires can cross over and mingle with us unsuspecting mortals. Minu's friends joke that Lucifer will probably show up and start drinking from all the humans. Minu isn't listening to this scary story. He has exams to study for and bills to pay. Between university and his part-time job, Minu doesn't have time to worry about vampires invading Earth.
Then, Minu gets a nosebleed and collapses. Minu. assumes he's just exhausted, but he visits a clinic to make sure everything is okay. The doctor discovers something unusual about his blood. Minu has extremely high levels of aromatic compounds, giving his blood a sweet smell whenever he bleeds. Humans can smell it. Animals can smell it. Even creepy little insects may come running. Minu doesn't fully understand the science. The important part is that his doctor warns him not to get hurt. Losing blood could attract all kinds of unwanted attention.
Can Lucifer regain his lost powers?

Later that night, Minu gets hurt. The Red Moon appears just as he's rushing to his part-time job after the doctor's appointment. He's late, stressed, and not paying attention as he crosses the street. Bam! A car hits him. Even worse, the driver immediately takes off instead of helping. Minu is left bleeding on the side of the road with nobody around to save him. And right on cue, Lucifer shows up. Lucifer is instantly drawn to the smell and takes one whiff of Minu's blood before losing all self-control. Chomp!
Lucifer bites into his neck, expecting a tasty midnight snack. Instead, the blood makes him sick. He faints immediately. Meanwhile, Minu's injuries magically disappear after Lucifer drinks from him. One second, he's a bloody car accident victim. The next, he's completely healed. Minu has no clue what just happened, but he still drags the unconscious vampire home rather than abandoning him on the street. Then, he ties Lucifer up and surrounds him with garlic and crosses for protection. Unfortunately for Minu, all those vampire defence tricks are useless. Lucifer wakes up and escapes his restraints with almost no effort.
However, drinking from Minu's body comes with unexpected side effects. Lucifer discovers that all his vampire powers are gone. Things get even weirder when Lucifer realizes he can't leave Minu's side. If they become too far apart physically, Lucifer starts to feel sick. That means Lucifer is forced to stick around while they figure out how to undo the blood bond. The vampire prince reluctantly stays in the human world and even adopts the name "Jun". No matter where Minu goes, Lucifer follows. But surprisingly, Minu and Lucifer learn to enjoy each other's company.

Sweet Blood Review
Review
Drama Review Score: 7.4

Sweet Blood has such an interesting premise! A vampire is ready to taste some human blood, but his night goes awfully wrong. Just when you think the victim is helpless, he stops the vampire's powers. Aha, the tables have turned! I love how the story takes creative risks and keeps getting weirder with its supernatural twists. It feels different from most Korean BL dramas on YouTube, which can be bland as hell. Same old plots. Same dull romances. That's why I get excited when Sweet Blood comes along with so many cool ideas.
I like how Sweet Blood doesn't take itself too seriously. Most episodes are surprisingly lighthearted. One of the story's best ideas is making Lucifer such a goofy character. Forget the brooding vampire stereotype! Some of the funniest moments come from the vampire prince being hilariously clueless about human customs. Other times, Lucifer just loves stirring up trouble for fun. Minu tells him to behave, and what's Lucifer's response? "But that would be boring!" Since Lucifer acts so silly, Minu never seems intimidated by him. Unlike many vampire-human romances, the power dynamics between the couple actually feel comfortable.
I've watched Minu's actor (Lee Sang Min) in a few BL dramas before, and this is easily my favourite performance of his. And no, I'm not saying that just because he takes off his shirt and shows off his ripped body. I'm looking very respectfully, I swear! Sweet Blood gives Sangmin better material to work with, allowing him to show more personality and let his natural charm shine. His co-star (In Jae Min) is also a delight. He has a knack for comedy, turning Lucifer into such a lovable goofball. Plus, the two actors play off each other nicely. Their scenes together feel quite relaxed.
On paper, Sweet Blood has all the ingredients for a special BL drama. Give this script to a bigger studio with more money, and it could produce a sleeper hit! Unfortunately, Lovememory is a small team with a shoestring budget. They can only afford these mini ten-minute episodes, which are too short to pull off such an ambitious plot. The rushed pacing becomes a major problem. Some scenes feel clunky since the story barely explains important events. It's a shame because the series has so many creative ideas, but there's never enough time to explore them properly.
Sadly, Minu and Lucifer's romance suffers from the short episodes. These guys spend plenty of time together, but where's the spark? They act more like buddies than boyfriends! For most of the series, I barely sense any sexual tension between them. In the last few episodes, the series is suddenly scrambling to convince us the characters are in love. Hurry, make them kiss! Quick, throw in a sex scene! These intimate moments make me warm up to the couple, but I'm still not fully converted. Their connection feels too shallow and needs more time to develop.
The finale features a big showdown between Lucifer and his evil brother. The series rushes through the confrontation, so this epic battle is underwhelming. I hate the sloppy AI effects during the fight. The actors' faces get so distorted that I can't recognize them! Thankfully, Sweet Blood gives us a happy ending. I love the last scene where the couple just hangs out and jokes around. Seeing Lucifer enjoy an ordinary moment with his boyfriend feels weirdly sweet. Despite its flaws, I have a soft spot for Sweet Blood. This quirky BL drama deserves some credit for its creativity.
Summary
Creative story
Sweet Blood has a lot of creative ideas! I love its unique take on a vampire story, which keeps getting weirder with its supernatural twists. I also like that many episodes are surprisingly lighthearted.
Rushed romance
Minu and Lucifer seem to get along, but they act more like buddies than boyfriends. While the last few episodes include some intimate scenes, I'm still not convinced this couple is truly in love.
Charming acting
Minu's actor (Lee Sang Min) shines in this role and shows off his natural charm (plus, his ripped body!) His co-star (In Jae Min) is just as delightful, turning Lucifer into a lovable goofball.
Happy ending
Sweet Blood has a happy ending, even if the finale rushes through the showdown between Lucifer and his brother. I like the last scene where Lucifer enjoys some ordinary happiness with Minu.
Low-budget artistry
The series has ambitious ideas, but the shoestring budget makes everything look cheap. Plus, the sloppy AI usage is distracting. I hate the AI-generated thumbnails on the YouTube videos.

Sweet Blood tells a really cool and creative vampire story. I love the lighthearted humour, especially the goofy characters. Too bad everything feels rushed because the episodes are too short.
