I Am a Fool for You Season 4 is the fourth and final season of the Hong Kong BL series. The main characters reunite awkwardly before a friend's wedding. Their last encounter ended with a rejected love confession, and they haven't stayed in touch since. The protagonist feels uneasy about seeing his love interest, who brought a new guy to the party. Sexual tension builds as they confront their unresolved feelings.
The final season of I'm a Fool for You is underwhelming. Once again, the series returns to the same old themes of unrequited love and relationship angst. None of the tedious storylines excite me. The writing remains lacklustre, while the acting performances seem stiff like usual. At least the BL content delivers. I appreciate the boldness of the romantic encounters. Yet, I'm disappointed with how little this love story has developed over four seasons.

I'm a Fool for You Season 4 Review
Review
Drama Review Score: 6.3
The final season of I'm a Fool for You is an underwhelming way to end the series. Foolishly, I assumed the two-year gap between Season 3 and Season 4 would give the writer time to polish the script. I stayed optimistic in my past review, holding onto the faint hope that the sequel would improve. However, the story ends with a whimper instead of a bang. After four disappointing seasons, I can no longer pretend to enjoy this mediocre BL drama. I'm a Fool for You simply fails to deliver.
Every season, Hugo and Hin have unresolved sexual tension stemming from their high school days. The story keeps going in circles and revisits the same old plot without making progress. These characters would spend most of their time moping around, pining after each other, or crying over unrequited love. Their scenes feel tedious, dwelling on the melodrama with generic dialogue. While Season 4 offers a brief moment of passion between Hin and Hugo, it's quickly overshadowed by the usual angst and conflict. I'm a Fool for You is like a broken record and doesn't excite us with new developments.
I'm a Fool for You branches out with other storylines, yet they're uninspiring. Hugo and Victor's subplot adds another unrequited love, which this series already has too much of. Hin and Mankit's relationship feels shallow. Mankit has no purpose beyond stripping and hooking up. Over the years, Hin's love interests have all been interchangeable, copy-pasted from the same character template. Episode 4 tackles a serious subject, but seeing "drugged" and "raped" in the video title fills my heart with dread. The writing isn't equipped to handle this heavy topic with the care it deserves.
Generally, Hong Kong gay dramas and movies are modest when depicting physical intimacy between men. I appreciate how this series is bolder and doesn't shy away from the action. When Hin and Mankit hook up, they kiss, strip, and press their bodies against each other. Hell yeah, the optics are appealing! Even if other aspects fall short, I'm a Fool for You delivers when it comes to BL content. The production values are also steady, presenting many scenes with decent-looking visuals. However, the same piece of music is overplayed and can be distracting.
Hin's actor (Pius Kung) remains a paradox. This telegenic heartthrob is cursed with the inability to emote or deliver lines smoothly on camera. Other performers seem tense in their roles, whereas the BTS footage shows everyone more relaxed as themselves. Yiu is absent this season despite being one of the leads from the start. Honestly, I'd rather watch Yiu than Hin or Hugo. Oscar is also missing, likely due to the actor's unavailability. Yet, his character is oddly prominent in the story. Dedicating so much focus to someone who doesn't even appear makes no sense.
The last episode is the worst. After creating an emotional arc for Victor, the story doesn't follow up on his character. I worried about Victor's condition and wanted to see more, but the finale reduces him to a footnote. Meanwhile, Hugo and Hin's endless relationship angst feels like a hamster running in a wheel. If there were a Season 5, they'd repeat the same conflicts again. The series is officially over, but I'm disappointed by almost everything with I'm a Fool for You. Maybe I'm the fool for watching four seasons and expecting a better love story from this lacklustre drama.
Summary
Uninspiring story
I'm a Fool for You Season 4 delivers another series of melodrama and repetitive conflicts, especially with the endless angst between Hin and Hugo. Other subplots are equally uninspiring.
Dull romance
I'm tired of Hugo and Hin's repetitive relationship drama. Hin's new love interest is generic. That said, I enjoy the optics of them hooking up. At least this series doesn't shy away from the BL action.
Unnatural acting
Hin's actor (Pius Kung) struggles to emote or deliver lines naturally on camera. The rest of the cast feels tense in their roles. They seem more relaxed in the behind-the-scenes footage.
Sad ending
I'm a Fool for You 4 has a sad ending for Hin and Hugo's endless angsty drama. By this point, I don't care about their relationship status. It also fails to follow up on Victor's emotional arc.
Decent artistry
The series has decent-looking production values, presenting all the actors in a flattering light. However, it overuses the same piece of music this season, which can be distracting.
63%
I'm a Fool for You wraps up the entire series on a disappointing note. With uninspired writing, dull relationship melodrama, and stiff performances, this mediocre love story never fulfills its potential.
