My Damn Business – Series Review & Episode Guide

Woo-jin, also known as Director Han, is an office worker for GND International. Although a prestigious organization, the company is struggling financially. It has recently issued a mass layoff, impacting almost everyone in Woo-jin's sales department. All his team members are gone, and he's the only one left. To compensate, his higher-ups assign a temporary employee to help with the workload. Su-an is supposed to work with Woo-jin for the next three months.

Backed by years of career experience, Woo-jin exudes confidence. He has an outgoing personality and likes to chit-chat around the office. When Woo-jin tries to get to know his new subordinate better, Su-an remains reserved and gives short, polite responses. Unlike his sociable coworker, Su-an doesn't like to reveal too much about himself. He prefers to go to the office, perform the tasks, and leave without fuss. Woo-jin is disappointed by Su-an's aloofness, but they maintain professional boundaries as the only two employees in the office.

For a while, Woo-jin and Su-an kept their distance. Despite Woo-jin's attempts to socialize, his younger coworker didn't seem interested in revealing more about himself. However, their relationship dynamic changed one day. Su-an is supposed to give Woo-jin a USB file with business documents. Instead of transferring the correct files, he included some compromising material about his personal life. Woo-jin is shocked when he sees the images, while Su-an feels deeply embarrassed over the mistake.

Su-an's immediate response is denial. He claims these files belong to his artist friend, Ji-yoon. She put the sensitive content into the USB drive without him knowing. However, Woo-jin is glad to have some leverage over his overly serious coworker. He uses this opportunity to tease Su-an's interests, making playful jabs and snide remarks. As the taunting escalates, Su-an becomes annoyed. He drops his polite demeanour and reveals a harsher attitude. Su-an and Woo-jin's relationship sours as they clash.

Surprisingly, My Damn Business was more enjoyable than I expected. While the plot isn't deep or innovative, it benefits from a decent script. The writing shows a bit of wit, filling each episode with cheeky jokes, playful banter, and amusing scenarios. This lighthearted series likes to have fun and wants to entertain the audience. In addition, the one-hour story paces itself well. Before the narrative falls into a slump, My Damn Business knows when to inject sexual tension or a dramatic twist to spice things up.

My Damn Business follows a standard office rom-com formula, so most scenarios aren't particularly original as the two employees fall in love. A few plot points can be clunky and occur too abruptly. Also, it doesn't have complex themes or thoughtful messages. Despite its lack of depth, the simplicity works well. This series stays in its lane and keeps things straightforward. It only concentrates on the relationship drama without getting sidetracked by other subplots. It's easy for viewers to understand the love story and absorb an hour of casual entertainment. Just sit back, relax, and laugh at the jokes.

The first episode contains a naughty scenario. You'll be intrigued to see how the leads recover from the awkward incident and become lovers. Over a delightful journey, their relationship evolves from workplace enemies to drinking buddies and perhaps something more. However, Woo-jin can be a dick. He behaves problematically toward a subordinate, especially with the touchy-feely massages. The series excuses the misconduct with humour, such as when the HR rep catches them in compromising positions. While these scenes can be funny, they are still red flags.

Woo-jin's actor (Jung Jae Bin) brings a confident swagger. He's relaxed during conversations, charming with the comedic material, and suave in romantic encounters. Although this series has a small cast, his charisma alone is commanding enough to energize each episode's mood. His costar (Jeon Yu Bin) fits the role well. He captures Su-an's grouchy attitude while letting a hint of softness peek through. My favourite is Hwang (Hwang Min Hwan). This supporting character looks so dreamy in his glasses and business attire. He's my ideal type. I need him biblically.

My Damn Business spends time developing Woo-jin and Su-an's bond. They grow closer through personal chats, casual flirting, and overcoming simple conflicts. I like some relationship moments, but not all of them. A few romantic scenes seem too ordinary, almost like run-of-the-mill BL content. Instead of giving me an exhilarating rush, the exchanges lack emotional intensity and don't stir my shipper's heart. However, the actors are charming enough to make me feel mildly positive about their flirty interactions. The couple's final kiss also seals the deal for me.

My Damn Business doesn't have the most glamorous production values. The characters stay in the office a lot, which feels stale. When they film in other locations, these places are plainly decorated or don't exude a visual flair. However, I understand the limitations faced by an indie studio. Based on the credits, this drama is led by a ten-person crew. Despite the staffing shortage, they still created a fun, easygoing series. My Damn Business is damn impressive for a team this size. It deserves an encouraging review score to let the BL makers know they're on the right track.
