Something's Not Right is a Korean school BL series about two best friends driven apart by a secret crush. Due to his unrequited feelings, the main character announces that he wants to end their friendship. His buddy is confused, unaware of the real reason behind this decision. The protagonist pulls away and tries to keep his distance. He starts spending time with another student, who takes an interest in his love life and offers him relationship advice.
The first few episodes of Something's Not Right seemed promising. It had a lighthearted tone and introduced three main characters with distinctive personalities. Over time, I lose interest because the plot never makes progress. The story remains stuck on unrequited love for an agonizingly long time. Scene after scene, the characters rehash their tedious relationship drama. The series finds the worst excuses to avoid moving the romance forward.

Plot

Ba Woo and Jin Hun have been childhood best friends for many years. Despite their close bond, they couldn't be more different from each other. Ba Woo is quiet, thoughtful, and sensitive, while Jin Hun is loud and outgoing. Although the opposite in many ways, they still get along well. They do everything together and seem almost inseparable. Jin Hun even promises that he'll always be part of Ba Woo's life.
Even though they're supposed to be just friends, Ba Woo has had a secret crush on Jin Hun since high school. He once tried to confess his feelings at graduation. Jin Hun misunderstood and took it as a sign of their strong friendship. He even told the rest of their friends about it, and they all laughed, thinking it was just a funny moment between buddies. Ba Woo felt humiliated that Jin Hun missed the point. He never corrected him or explained that he meant something more.
Ba Woo and Jin-hun attend the same university. Jin Hun joins a band and becomes the lead vocalist. He spends most of his time with his bandmates Ji Ho, Nu Ri, and Gyeong Min. Ba Woo, who once loved music, quietly pulls away. He keeps his distance, focusing on school and his part-time job at a coffee shop. Without telling Jin Hun, Ba Woo secretly applies to a music academy. When Jin Hun eventually finds out, he's confused and hurt that Ba Woo didn't share the news with him.
The pain of Ba Woo's unrequited love becomes too much to handle. One day, he makes a sudden announcement and ends their friendship. "Let's stop being friends. I want to cut ties with you." Jin Hun is completely confused and refuses to accept it. He follows Ba Woo around and floods him with messages, trying to figure out what's going on. Instead of creating distance, Ba Woo's attempt to push Jin Hun away has the opposite effect. Ha Min clings to Ba Woo tighter and emphasizes how much their friendship means to him.
Ba Woo writes down his feelings in a green journal. His entries read like a mix of poetry and song lyrics. One day, he accidentally leaves the journal behind in the library. Another student, Ha Min, finds it and flips through the pages. He assumes it's all part of a made-up story. Feeling inspired, Ha Min wants to adapt it into a webtoon, not realizing it's based on real events. As they work on the project together, Ha Min gives Ba Woo love advice. With his support, Ba Woo gathers the courage to confess to Jin Hun again.

Something's Not Right Review
Review
Drama Review Score: 6.3

Something's Not Right seemed promising at first. I enjoyed the lighthearted tone in the early episodes. One of the leads is full of energy, infusing each scene with enthusiasm. Another character is quirky and adds a touch of odd humour. The protagonist is quieter, but his unrequited love forms the emotional core of the story. Together, the three of them create a compelling dynamic. Their interactions entertained me, setting a positive first impression for the series. Unfortunately, the momentum doesn't last.
The story begins with Ba Woo struggling to confess his feelings. Initially, I was patient and expected this plot to be resolved after a few episodes. To my dismay, the series drags out the relationship drama for an agonizingly long time. I'm bored by the lack of progress. Jin Hun's cluelessness was amusing at first, but it soon became an annoying way to prolong the tension. Ba Woo asked him out on a date and even came close to a kiss. Yet, Jin Hun still plays dumb and pretends he has no idea. Your friend likes you. Obviously. It shouldn't take you the whole series to figure that out, Sherlock!
Ba Woo is aggravating because he bottles up his feelings. At one point, Jin Hun asks, "Do you like me?" Now is your time to say yes! Instead, Ba Woo stays silent and sulks. Ugh, his character is such a wet blanket. He makes falling in love look so painful, which sucks the joy out of watching this BL series. I also hate the way he treats Jin Hun. You claim to be in love with your friend, yet you keep pushing him away. You threaten to cut him out of your life. Your lack of explanation makes him worry he did something wrong. None of this standoffish behaviour feels romantic at all.
Early on, I shipped Ba Woo with Jin Hun, but their boring scenes got on my nerves. I switched allegiances and preferred Ha Min because he came with less annoying drama. At first, I enjoyed Ha Min's chaotic energy. He knows about Ba Woo's secret crush, gives quirky relationship advice, and encourages him to be assertive. Since Ba Woo is too passive, we need Ha Min to motivate him and drive the plot forward. However, Ha Min becomes less interesting over time. The series never develops his character properly, so he's reduced to a one-dimensional love rival.
During the early episodes, Jin Hun and Ha Min's actors (Jung Je Hyeon & Ji Min Seo) are instrumental in keeping the energy up. Likewise, their co-star (Choi Min Ho) portrays his role well. While I find Ba Woo's character too mopey, the actor can convey emotions through his wistful gaze and forlorn expressions. The solid production values also ensure everyone looks visually appealing. However, the story becomes tedious toward the end, making it hard to appreciate the performances or the cinematography. As boredom and fatigue set in, I notice the nuances less and less.
Something's Not Right wastes too much time going in circles. Scene after scene, the characters only focus on their endless relationship drama. Where are the other plots? After a whole series of unrequited love, they're still sorting out their feelings in the finale. Ba Woo pisses me off because he seems allergic to happiness. You like him, he likes you back, so why is there a problem!? Stop feeling insecure and just accept the damn relationship! Overall, Something's Not Right is a disappointing BL drama. Despite my enthusiasm in the early episodes, I lost all interest toward the end.
