The Heart Killers is a Thai BL series about two brothers who work as undercover assassins. The main character is playful and a hopeless romantic, while his older brother is grumpy and wary of relationships. On the surface, the siblings run a burger joint. Behind their ordinary personas, the protagonists go on secret missions to eliminate evildoers. However, their love life keeps clashing with their dangerous line of work.
Although The Heart Killers excited me early on, the illogical plot holes make each episode less enjoyable. There's an excessive focus on the relationship drama, which becomes tedious. At least the couples share sizzling chemistry and have wild hookups. This raunchy series knows how to highlight each actor's sex appeal, and its stylish retro aesthetic creates cinematic moments. However, the over-the-top sleaziness feels tacky and tasteless.

Plot

Bison and his older brother Fadel run a burger joint with a retro diner vibe. While Fadel handles most of the business responsibilities, the carefree Bison doesn't even know how to cook. Despite their ordinary personas, the siblings lead double lives as undercover assassins. Their boss, the mysterious Mother, assigns them secret missions to kill powerful business tycoons guilty of terrible crimes. After executing their targets each time, Bison and Fadel return to their seemingly average lives.
Fadel is serious and cautious, fully aware that their line of work is dangerous. Fadel knows that one wrong move may get them killed or arrested, so he always keeps his guard up. He avoids relationships and remains emotionally distant to protect himself. In contrast, Bison is a hopeless romantic. While he enjoys one-night stands, Bison secretly desires a more long-lasting love. More than anything, he wants a normal life with a boyfriend. However, Fadel warns him against forming attachments, reminding his brother that being an assassin is incompatible with falling for anyone. Reluctantly, Bison agrees.
One night at a bowling alley, Bison meets Kant. This charming tattoo artist flirts with him, and they share a steamy night together. Bison leaves without exchanging contact information, thinking that's the end of their relationship. However, Kant tracks Bison down at the burger joint and keeps pursuing him romantically. From smooth pick-up lines to constant affection, Bison falls for Kant's charm. Kant lives with his younger brother Babe and takes care of him after their parents passed away. Bison sees Kant as sweet and potentially boyfriend material.
Bison has no idea that Kant is a former car thief. Kant secretly works with the police, who have offered him a plea bargain. They promise to erase his criminal record if he accepts a secret mission. The police suspect Bison and Fadel of being dangerous criminals. They want Kant to gather information about them, especially the leader behind their operations. If Kant refuses to cooperate, he'll be arrested for his past crimes. Kant worries about his brother's well-being, so he agrees to be an informant. His task is to get close to Bison, spy on him, and report to the police.
Although Bison is smitten with Kant, Fadel remains suspicious of his brother's new boyfriend. He constantly gets in the way, making it difficult for Kant to collect information. Kant turns to his mechanic friend, Style, for help. If Style can successfully distract Fadel and seduce him, Kant will give his friend a vintage car. Winning over Fadel is challenging. Fadel seems guarded, no matter how much Style turns on the charm. But Style is persistent. He follows Fadel everywhere, flirts shamelessly, and refuses to back down until he wins over his target's heart.

The Heart Killers Review
Review
Drama Review Score: 7.2

The Heart Killers is like a greasy burger. That first bite seems juicy. When the series begins, there's a lot to enjoy. This edgy crime romcom excites me because it differs from the usual BL dramas. The sex scenes are also filled with sizzling kisses and plenty of skin on display. But then comes the second burger, which no longer tastes as good. The story starts to get stale, the romances seem unhealthy, and even the sensual moments feel excessive. Like fast food, the more I consume The Heart Killers, the less satisfied I am.
Initially, I was on board with the premise of two brothers working as secret assassins. These hot guys take down powerful business tycoons, almost like Luigi Mangione. However, the plot becomes laughably dumb. Bizarre events occur in the second half, far removed from logic and realism. Another issue is that the romances receive too much focus. While I like that the couples get plenty of development, they're constantly in the spotlight. Their relationship drama feels excessive and tedious. A 14-hour narrative can allocate extra time to side characters or new subplots for more variety in the storylines.
Early on, I hated Style because of his annoying personality. Despite getting rejected multiple times, he pesters Fadel and invades his personal space. Like Pepé Le Pew in human form, his creepy antics resemble harassment rather than flirtation. As chaos explodes later in the series, the assassins threaten to kill their love interests. For me, pointing a gun at your soulmate is a dealbreaker and enough to justify a breakup. Also, their relationship conflicts drag on so much that I've lost my patience. If you want them dead so badly, stop making excuses and pull the damn trigger!
Although The Heart Killers often frustrates me, there are aspects I enjoy. At one point, all four leads have hidden agendas they don't reveal to their partners. Surrounded by deception, their relationship scenes carry a sense of danger and suspense, which can be exhilarating. As irritating as Style may be, I like that he sparks Fadel's transformation from a ruthless assassin to a sensitive softie. The stylish retro aesthetic also sets the tone for enchanting moments, like Bison & Kant's dance at the bowling alley or Fadel & Style's late-night makeout sessions.
The Heart Killers likes to put the cast in risque scenarios. They strip down, hook up, and have steamy exchanges. This series is brilliant at highlighting each actor's sex appeal. Joong has always been attractive, but he reaches Magic Mike's level of hotness during the strip tease. Likewise, I see Dunk in a new light after he flaunts his alluring waistline. While I appreciate the spicy imagery, The Heart Killers overdoes the raunchiness and comes across as tacky. A little sensuality is fun, but it feels tasteless when you constantly indulge in naughty innuendos or sleazy antics.
Kant's actor (First) performs charismatically, while his co-star (Khao) looks adorable. Fadel's role is perfect for Joong since he can be mysterious without needing to emote too much. In contrast, his partner (Dunk) struggles in dramatic scenes. At least both couples have superb chemistry and deliver lots of passion during physical intimacy. However, the series loses steam near the end with pointless relationship fluff in overly long episodes. I was bored with The Heart Killers. Much like my feelings after eating a greasy burger, I've lost my appetite for this bloated BL drama.
Summary
Dumb story
The Heart Killers starts with an exciting premise about two assassin brothers. As the plot unfolds, logic is thrown out the window. The second half turns into a laughably dumb mess with bizarre events.
Raunchy romances
The series is packed with many raunchy hookups and steamy sex scenes. However, the relationships have unhealthy dynamics, from constant harassment to holding their love interests at gunpoint.
Seductive acting
I appreciate the cast's sizzling chemistry during physical intimacy and non-romantic encounters. The actors are overflowing with sex appeal. However, their dramatic performances seem shaky.
Happy ending
The Heart Killers has a happy ending for all four characters, who survive danger and reunite with their loved ones. The finale is filled with relationship fluff instead of a meaningful plot.
Retro artistry
This series has a distinct retro aesthetic that adds a cinematic quality. The stylish atmosphere elevates certain moments, whether it's a dance at the bowling alley or a late-night hookup.
72%
The Heart Killer seems exciting initially, but the illogical plot and tedious relationship drama make the story less enjoyable. While there are many raunchy scenes, they feel sleazy and tasteless.

I totally agree with you! So much wasted potential :'( If the story would have continued to focus on the hitman trope, with a new mission every episode, it would have been much more interesting. I think it's not a case that the part where the series shines more is when Fadel has to dance in the night club to poison the assistant. In that scene they accomplished to mix the thrill and excitement of a hitman mission, with the development of the love story with se second main lead. What a pity and what wasted potential 🙁
You succinctly expressed why I was bored with the last 3rd of this drama. I would go from enjoying the romance scenes ("Oh Bison is such an adorable psycho") to bemoaning the other scenes ("ugh! Nothing's happening"). I think wasted potential is so much worse than a bad show. Cinematography was beautiful, music was sonorous, chemistry was exothermic, but the story was sluggish.
First, Dunk,, Joong, and Khaotung were working too hard, because they were in almost EVERY scene in this drama. The writing really needed to make use of the other actors and storylines.
Good review … where at the beginning I couldn't wait for the next episode … towards the end I started gathering as the interest fell off …
I am a new watcher to your site … I am amazing and hugely impressed with the work you have put into BL WATCHER … respect
honestly, this is such a REAL review. this exactly explained how i felt throughout the series, especially while waiting for it while it aired. it just lost its sizzle towards the end (also, where did the bdsm go????? we had ONE scene and then BAM no more…)
as much as i absolutely adore firstkhao, and as much as i loved joongdunk's chemistry in this, it just… lost my interest towards the end. i think you described that feeling really well by comparing it to a greasy burger!
While I tend to agree with most of your reviews, I have to dissent from the overall grade you gave THK. I think the in depth focus on these two couples was refreshing. If you like the characters, and especially if you are in love with the actors as I am with First and Khao :), too much of a good thing doesn't exist for me (especially with the NC scenes). These two couples' chemistry in THK far outweighed any of the shortcomings in the story/plot for me. A solid B to B+.
I agree with your review. The series started strong. I love the early episodes but towards the middle it completely left me dry. I used to be so excited whenever a new episode would come out at the beginning of the series, but then I completely grew uninterested by the middle of the series. My sister literally DNF (did not finish) watching the show, she just thought it had become so boring.
I personally did not like Dunk's acting. Maybe it's just me who thinks that, but he is an awkward kisser. It's hard for me to feel that he actually has feeling for Fadel (Joong). his body language and facial expression made me doubt Style's attraction to Fadel. I don't think he is a great actor, I think he still has some work left to get there. It was easier for me to believe Khao and First actually liked one another. These two really have great chemistry.
Khao is a great actor. The scene at the beach when he was crying to First, broke my heart. I felt bad for him and connected to his character as a viewer which is something I had trouble doing with style's character at times due to his poor acting.
For a series about assassins, I was expecting more heavy-pack action scenes. I mean, the trailer and teasers literally made it seem like the show was going to be heavy-pack action. Jack & Joker feels more like what THK should have been, a heavily packed show with action, missions, and a great dash of romance.
