Episode 1

Episode 1 Review

I adore how supportive Shao Peng's parents are. He was raised in a warm and positive family filled with unconditional love, which explains his gentle personality. While the outside world can be harsh toward his condition, home is a safe haven for Shao Peng. During a job interview, an employer mocks him by asking, "Can you talk?" Later, his mother reassures him. "My son knows how to talk so well." Her words give him the boost of confidence he needs to counter the prejudice he faces from others.

I love how the mom dresses in scary costumes to greet her son when he comes home. It reminds me of an older Japanese movie: When I Get Home, My Wife Always Pretends to Be Dead. In both cases, the surprise greetings create a playful atmosphere, giving loved ones something to look forward to after a stressful day. Shao Peng needs this cheering up, especially as he feels demoralized from his job search. He also faces prejudice, making his journey even more challenging. I really like this storyline. It's relatable and makes me feel invested in his character's journey.

The series has just begun, but I'm already obsessed with Jonathan. He looks like Clark Kent in a business suit. His muscular body fills a blazer effortlessly, giving him a commanding presence. My favourite part about Jonathan is the subtle contempt toward his boss. Every time Zi Xiang speaks, Jonathan reacts with an air of disdain. He can't stand this rich kid, and it's hilarious. Jonathan carries himself with a sense of superiority, like he's more accomplished and intellectually dominant, yet stuck working beneath someone he doesn't respect. That vibe cracks me up!

Episode 2

Episode 2 Review

I like the duality in the characters. Shu He acts serious at work, but she shows a carefree side at home with Shao Peng. Likewise, Jonathan is a competent secretary, yet he reveals his playboy habits after hours. Zi Xiang comes across as lazy and privileged, but we discover more layers to him as the story unfolds. In the first episode, an employer only focuses on Shao Peng's hearing loss, overlooking his other traits. The series reminds us that he and the rest of the cast have hidden depths. Don't be too quick to judge anyone based on surface impressions.

Episode 2 features two moments that highlight Shao Peng's communication barrier. He lip-reads a chat between Zi Xiang & Jonathan, only picking up on words like "murder" and "mafia," leading to a comedic misunderstanding about their background. Later, during the banter between his mom and Shu He, Shao Peng can't follow the joke. I love how Shu He repeats it to him, even though it's embarrassing for her. She doesn't want to exclude him. Once Shao Peng understands, he joins the humour with his witty line, "I'm not into recycling." Haha, that's funny! This well-written scene is both playful and meaningful.

Early on, Zi Xiang comes across as a tool, making inappropriate comments to Shu He in the workplace. I love that she immediately puts him in his place, even threatening him with a sexual harassment lawsuit. The best part is Jonathan's reaction. His usual composure breaks as he hides a tiny smirk, amused at his boss getting schooled. 😆 Despite his annoying remarks, Zi Xiang has a roguish charm. The actor's cheeky smile and mischievous demeanour make him charming enough to soften the character's edges. I'm more inclined to forgive him.

Episode 3

Episode 3 Review

My favourite moment in this episode is when Zi Xiang grabs Jonathan by the necktie. It only lasted five seconds, but that interaction made me jump ships. Sorry, Shao Peng, but I want a Zi Xiang and Jonathan romance to happen. In my head, I'm writing a thousand toxic fanfics about their boss-assistant dynamic evolving while they live together. I need Jonathan to whip that spoiled heir into shape, both in the boardroom and the bedroom. Sadly, my BL fantasies never come true. Jonathan is the one who got away!

I already loved Jonathan as the sophisticated secretary, but this episode makes him even better by revealing his alter ego: JONATHAN AFTER DARK. Once the workday ends, he removes his glasses, strips out of his suit, and transforms into a suave playboy. By 7 o'clock, he's sitting at the bar, shamelessly flirting with the bartender. OMG, I feel scandalized! Who knew Jonathan had this side to him? It's like watching Clark Kent remove his glasses and become a seductive Superman. He's working hard at day, whoring it even harder at night. The ~layers~ to his character continue to fascinate me.

This episode delivered a shocking twist when Zi Xiang suddenly stood up from his wheelchair and started walking normally again. OMFG. He was faking his injury!? First, he stages a life-threatening allergic reaction to avoid work, and now this? I don't even know what's real anymore! I love this surprise, though. It adds a devious edge to Zi Xiang's character. Plus, the scene where he tries to sneak out of the house is hilarious! This series excels at writing comedic scenarios, and the actor does a fantastic job playing up the humour. I was thoroughly amused.

Episode 4

Episode 4 Review

I laughed at the instant karma. Zi Xiang fakes an injury, only to actually hurt himself. His fall isn't too severe, but I understand why he'd be scared. He's disoriented and wounded, plus nobody knows his location. As his mind spirals into dark thoughts, Zi Xiang delivers a line that strikes an emotional chord: "Nobody wants to get close to me because I am me." The profound sadness of his words stirs sympathy in me. I'm glad Shao Peng rescues him. Even if it's just part of his job, he makes Zi Xiang feel less alone. 🥲

This episode, Jonathan reveals a sinister streak. He torments Xin Jia into thinking they slept together. It never actually happened, but Jonathan seems like a sadistic sicko for playing twisted mind games. Maybe he meant for it to be a joke and never got the chance to clarify since Xin Jia left in a hurry. Or he thinks Xin Jia is potentially dangerous and wants to test his reaction. Either way, Jonathan is like a Machiavellian mastermind who enjoys manipulating others. His conniving personality adds another fascinating yet frightening layer to his character's lore.

OMG. Why is Zi Xiang sleeping in the closet!? I'm used to characters from BL dramas being closeted, but not literally like this. At first, I thought Zi Xiang was just a typical rich kid. Now, I realize his family trauma runs deeper. It has affected him psychologically to the point where he sleeps inside a confined space. In the last scene, Jonathan questions the cousin's loyalty, and Zi Xiang reacts harshly. This moment is another hint of the family trauma that Zi Xiang buries within himself. Beneath his cheeky persona, his psyche is more damaged than we realize.

Episode 5

Episode 5 Review

In the opening scene, Zi Xiang and Shao Peng are in the middle of an argument. Emotions run high. I love how Jonathan stands on the sidelines, adding fuel to the fire with snarky commentary. Zi Xiang yells after Shao Peng, only for Jonathan to say matter-of-factly, "He can't hear you." and "I'm just stating the facts. 🙂" LMAO. He's trolling so hard. Jonathan has mastered the art of making snide remarks beneath a seemingly casual demeanour.

Shao Peng returns home after quitting his job. His mom and Shu He act cheerful around him, pretending everything is fine. When the two women chat, the mother quietly expresses her concerns. I like how this conversation has a human touch, capturing the complex dynamics of a parent-child relationship. In real life, a parent may not always confide in their child. Instead, they'd only share their doubts with a close family friend. I also appreciate Shu He's empathy when reassuring the mother. The story excels in navigating the emotional nuances of each character.

I love Zi Xiang's apology to Shao Peng. He seems sincere, and his artwork is so cute! As their conversation deepens, Zi Xiang changes from speaking verbally to scribbling his responses on the tablet. Writing out his words by hand feels intimate. It also shows his initiative to connect with Shao Peng on the same level. There's a subtle difference between talking to him and communicating with him. I like how the story makes this distinction clear. After their exchange, I believe Zi Xiang is genuine and can understand why Shao Peng would forgive him.

Zi Xiang calls himself "useless" for not fulfilling his father's expectations, but Shao Peng crosses out that word on the tablet. This moment is meaningful coming from Shao Peng, who often faces reminders of his limitations. Yet, he approaches life by focusing on people's abilities rather than their inabilities. "You just love your dad. You don't want to disappoint him." Shao Peng transforms Zi Xiang's self-perceived weakness into a strength. He recognizes everyone's worth, believing that nobody is truly useless.

Xin Jia tries to attack Jonathan in the middle of the night, but Jonathan easily defends himself. In a hilarious turn of events, he throws his briefcase and almost knocks over Xin Jia lol. This fight should have been scary, yet Jonathan seems unfazed. In fact, he laughs and taunts Xin Jia for getting overpowered. How did the perpetrator suddenly turn into the victim? LMAO. Oh, Jonathan, you gloriously smug bastard. His character's antics are the highlight of every episode. I'm obsessed with him.
