Star in My Mind is a Thai BL series about a campus romance. The main character confessed his feelings to his high school classmate, who rejected him. They reunite in university after spending a year apart. Tormented by his earlier confession, the protagonist must navigate his embarrassment and frustration around his love interest.
Despite following a generic BL formula, Star in My Mind still goes off the rails and turns into an incoherent mess. The lousy writing, cliched romantic tropes, and agonizing relationship melodrama weigh down the narrative. What should have been an easygoing love story is strangely exhausting to watch.

Plot
Daonuan, also known by his nickname Nuea, is a high school student. He is leaving Thailand to study in Germany for his final year. On his last day of school, Nuea confesses his feelings to Kluen. Nuea had a schoolboy crush on his classmate for a long time. However, Kluen's tepid response leaves Nuea heartbroken and devastated.
A year later, Nuea returned to Thailand as a university student. He is studying fine arts, joined by his friends Ne and Pong. Nuea is shocked to meet Kluen on campus again. Kluen is a science student who goes to the same school as him. Nuea feels embarrassed about his previous love confession and pretends not to know Kluen around the other students. His former classmate plays along, although he makes a few snarky comments to Nuea in private.
Nuea insists he has gotten over Kluen and doesn't have a crush on him anymore. However, the two students discover they must live in the same dormitory. They get reacquainted again due to their close living quarters. Although Nuea tries to mind his own business, Kluen seems to appear around him all the time. Reluctantly, Nuea admits he still has lingering feelings for his classmate. Yet, Kluen is already in a relationship with Gia, his girlfriend from high school.
Nuea is a candidate competing in a campus popularity contest. Kluen is also part of the competition. During the process, Nuea befriends several students from other faculties, including Phoon, Sean, and Maithee. Phoon is attracted to Nuea and starts flirting with him. Papang, a female contestant, also develops a crush on the same guy. Nuea is surprised by his multiple suitors and tries his best to navigate these relationships. Since he had been rejected in a similar situation, Nuea understands the heartbreak and doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
Although Kluen acts cool and standoffish, he shows hints of jealousy around Nuea. He seems especially agitated about Nuea's close bond with Fah, not realizing these two are siblings. Nuea realizes Kluen keeps finding ways to spend time together, but he doesn't know how to interpret these mixed signals. Kluen's girlfriend is also a concern for Nuea, who doesn't want to get involved with an unavailable guy.

Star in My Mind Review
Review
Drama Review Score: 6.0
Star in My Mind has a simple premise, featuring two classmates who reunite after a failed high school love confession. The lightweight plot begins on a straightforward trajectory. Its first few episodes coast comfortably on predictable events, cliched interactions, and harmless romantic fluff. The entire universe revolves around the leading couple and their interpersonal drama with nothing else happening. The large supporting cast is only there to provide relationship commentary and state the obvious.
Although the scenarios aren't innovative, the cute BL tropes might still be enjoyable if you keep expectations low. The leads are fairly compatible, carrying a fun dynamic with decent amounts of chemistry. Kluen's actor (Joong) has modelesque looks that will draw you to his presence. His costar (Dunk) also conjures adorable moments with an endearingly neurotic personality. While their performances aren't remarkable, both do an okay job conveying an engaging rapport.
Despite following a generic formula, Star in My Mind still becomes an incoherent mess as it progresses. The storyteller tries to convince us Kluen & Nuea had an epic bond in high school, which doesn't seem authentic. These guys shared one measly exchange years ago, but the series acts like they're star-crossed lovers denied the romance of a lifetime. The more this awkward narrative is forced on us, the less their characters make sense. I'm confused by the contradictions and inconsistencies in Kluen's behaviour, especially regarding his relationship with Gia.
Star in My Mind is overeager to create unnecessary conflicts and include shallow love triangles. What should have been an easygoing romance becomes bogged down by angst, arguments & misunderstandings. Realistically, the leads reach a point in their relationship where there shouldn't be obstacles. You like him, and he likes you back, so what seems to be the problem? Yet, the characters keep crying and bickering over their self-inflicted agony. Star in My Mind hits rock bottom in Episode 6, packed with so much senseless melodrama that it's unwatchable.
Episode 7 marks a turning point for Star in My Mind. It's like somebody stepped in, realized the dire state of the narrative, and immediately course-corrected. Every miserable conflict is magically resolved within five minutes, and there's a clean sweep getting rid of all the pesky love rivals. Afterwards, the series switches gears to lighthearted BL fluff again. Even though the resolutions were dumb and inelegant, they flushed away most of the unpleasantness in the plot. I was just relieved about not sitting through another hour of manufactured relationship drama.
Star in My Mind has a happy ending for Nuea and Kluen. On paper, I appreciate the tale of redemption about two guys who reconciled after fumbling their adolescent love. Unfortunately, the incessant melodrama earlier soured my opinion of their relationship. The tears, the quarrels, the cliches, the love triangles, and the plot holes overshadow any romance. I don't feel connected to this BL couple, and their contrived love story doesn't move me. Overall, Star in My Mind fails to make a positive impression. The terribly written series registers very little in my mind.
Summary
Generic story
Star in My Mind butchers a generic love story and turns it into an incoherent mess. Nothing happens in the plot except the senseless relationship drama that goes around in circles.
Contrived romance
Although Nuea and Kluen have a fun rapport, there's too much melodrama around their romance. The pointless love triangles and contrived misunderstandings sour my opinion of this relationship.
Okay acting
The leads give okay performances and share decent amounts of chemistry together. However, I wouldn't say the acting is anything special or memorable.
Happy ending
Star in My Mind has a happy ending where the leads reconcile after resolving their miserable conflicts. Half of the last episode is like a promotion for their spin-off series, Sky in Your Heart.
Average artistry
Some filming locations are uninspiring, taking place in dinky parking lots or generic rooms. Overall, the production values are acceptable, but maybe a bit unimpressive for GMMTV.
60%
Star in My Mind follows a generic BL formula with the usual cliches and unoriginal storylines. The careless writing, needless conflicts, and pointless love triangle drag down the quality even more.

Star in My Mind Season 2
Sequel
Sky in Your Heart 2022 series sequel Drama review
Star in My Mind ends with a cliffhanger in the final episode, introducing the plot to Sky in Your Heart. Technically, it's more of a spin-off series than a sequel. Nonetheless, the second season follows up on the events after Star in My Mind. Unlike the original, Sky in Your Heart focuses on Dao's older brother, Fah. This doctor volunteers in a rural village after a drunken car accident. He meets a young schoolteacher and butts heads initially. Their relationship improves once they work past the early misunderstandings.
In my opinion, I prefer Sky in Your Heart over Star in My Mind. It's almost like a rip-off that follows a similar story as A Tale of Thousand Stars. Nonetheless, the casual and lighthearted drama is still pretty enjoyable. Sky in Your Heart isn't closely related to Star in My Mind, although watching both series may enrich your understanding. If you're a fan of Dao & Kluen, they appear in the spin-off with various cute relationship moments.

It started good , they are both good looking, interesting plot, but then all the crying, stupid misunderstandings, third wheel envy rival and all, and especially i didn't like Nuea's behaviour, I couldn't hear him bitching and complaining anymore.
Having said that- I kept on watching it… I guess it's because I love the old school BL- boys in uniform dramas 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️.. The next chapter Sky in Your Heart is sooo much betterrrr (so far, Ep 3 ) fah and prince, WOW
I honestly loved the series, it was so relatable.
