For Him – Series Review & Episode Guide

For Him is a Thai BL series about a university student and his mysterious suitor.

For Him is a Thai BL series about a university student and his mysterious new suitor. The main character recently broke up with his scumbag boyfriend. He meets a charming stranger in a bar. Their romantic attraction quickly leads to a night of passion. Afterwards, they become friends with benefits. The couple continues to meet up and has casual hookups. However, the protagonist soon discovers his new lover hides a troubled past.

From boring dialogue to bland characters, For Him is devoid of entertainment. After a shockingly awful start, the series continues to be dull, incoherent, and pointless in every episode. I barely care about the lead's mysterious past, a slow and tedious plot that lacks momentum. The couples flirt shallowly and don't develop meaningful romances. Only their sensual encounters may entice BL fans, but even the sleazy sex scenes seem tacky.

Nail and Jay are boyfriends. One day, Nail receives a mysterious phone call from a woman. She claims to be Jay's lover and threatens to break up Nail's relationship with him. Nail ignores the caller, treating it as a prank. However, his friends feel differently. Chaochom and Pae encourage him to confront his boyfriend for answers. Nail follows Jay and discovers he is, indeed, cheating on him.

Nail confronts Jay, who makes up many excuses to justify his cheating. As their exchange becomes heated, Nail ends the relationship with his boyfriend. After the breakup, he heads to the bar with his friends. While sitting alone, a charming stranger named Him approaches Nail. Him starts a casual chat between them. He notices that Nail seems lonely and wants to buy a drink for him. However, a heartbroken Nail isn't in the mood to flirt with anyone. He dismisses Him without giving away his contact info.

Nail has another unpleasant altercation with his ex-boyfriend. Afterwards, he returns to the bar and meets Him again. This time, Nail is ready to entertain his suitor. As the flirting escalates, they proceed to have a passionate one-night stand. After a fun night, Nail and Him discover they go to the same university, although their social circles have never mingled. They exchange contact information and become acquainted.

Him is interested in meeting up again. The couple spends another passionate evening together. Since they enjoy each other's company, Him and Nail agree to become friends with benefits. They will continue having casual hookups. However, Nail isn't interested in committing to a relationship, especially after his recent breakup. Him seems fine with the arrangement. Him also introduces Nail to his circle of friends, including Chao, Dream, and Te. While at the bar, Chao meets a tattoo artist named Phai. The two hit it off and have a one-night stand.

Nail and Him continue their relationship with no strings attached. The more they spend time together, the more Him turns on the charm and flirts with Nail. He seems interested in a more serious commitment between them, although Nail still seems reluctant. Meanwhile, there's growing tension between Him and his friend, Te. They clash at every encounter. For Him Review

Review

Drama Review Score: 4.4

D-
Nail and Him look in the mirror reflection.

For Him begins with a shockingly terrible opening scene. The absurd melodrama, dumb dialogue, and campy acting are cringy, reminding me of a comedic parody. Within the first five minutes, I wanted to give the series a failing review grade. While I endured the rest of the episodes, For Him never improves after a tragic early impression. It remains a trashy, mindless BL drama that isn't worth anyone's time. There's no way to excuse the godawful writing.

After a dismal start, For Him continues to be dull and vaguely incoherent. I have a rough idea of what's happening in the plot, yet I can't remember anything memorable. Many forgettable scenes pass through me like monotonous noise, in one ear and out the other. One of the drama's worst problems is the dreadfully written dialogue. Not only do the lines sound unnatural, but they also fail to evoke any depth or genuine emotion. All the conversations are mundane or pointless, boring me with every word spoken. There's no wit, eloquence, or charm to the exchanges.

The plot revolves around the protagonist's mysterious past. Nail meets a flirtatious stranger, only to realize he has a troubled history with an ex-boyfriend. As accusations and flashbacks emerge, viewers wonder whether Him is problematic. In theory, the premise sounds like an intriguing thriller. In reality, the execution falls flat and fails to deliver on its suspense. The series drags out a slow, tedious narrative, creating little momentum. Episode after episode, I'm disengaged with the vague and convoluted drama. I don't care about Him or Nail as characters.

The leads go from being friends with benefits to developing long-term feelings. However, the couple flirts shallowly. None of their lovey-dovey interactions seem unique or meaningful. Also, Him has too much baggage from the past. The series focuses extensively on Him's enemies sabotaging his life rather than the love story. As he drags Nail into unpleasant drama, it ruins the mood for romance. I don't believe they should stay together. Likewise, I'm not a fan of the secondary pair. Chao and Phai's relationship scenes either bored me or annoyed me.

For Him includes many sensual encounters. The sex scenes are visually titillating, from intimate physical contact to close-up shots of the physiques. Him's actor (Dew), who has a firm body, looks flattering on camera. Occasionally, the dim lighting and moody music create a steamy atmosphere. However, there are tacky moments. Some BL dramas can film passionate exchanges tastefully, whereas For Him often seems low-brow and sleazy. The series is also terrible at writing foreplay. The couple's awkward flirting makes me wish they'd skip talking and go directly to kissing.

The cast is subpar and can't elevate the material. While Nail's actor (Tor) shows an occasional spark of personality, the lousy writing diminishes any possibility of an authentic performance. Early on, I lost hope for this series and checked out mentally from the nonsense. Near the end, the storyline escalates dramatically and resolves bizarrely. Afterwards, it doesn't bother with a plot anymore. The last few episodes coast on vapid romantic fluff. Overall, For Him underwhelms me in every aspect. There's nothing from this abysmal BL drama that I can recommend.

Summary

Dull story

For Him drags out a dull, tedious story with many forgettable conversations and pointless interactions. The dialogue is dreadfully written. I don't care about what is happening in the plot.

Shallow romance

The drama around Him's mysterious past overshadows the shallow love story. Despite numerous sensual encounters, I root against the lead romance. I also find the secondary pair annoying.

Bland acting

The cast members can't elevate the subpar material. Nail's actor (Tor) shows a spark of personality in a few scenes, but the writing diminishes any potential of an authentic performance.

Happy ending

For Him has a happy ending where Nail and Him overcome the enemies who try to break them apart. After resolving the conflicts, the last few episodes coast on vapid romantic fluff.

Tacky artistry

Occasionally, the dim lighting and moody background music create a steamy atmosphere. Despite the level of physical intimacy, the sex scenes often come across as tacky and sleazy.

44%

For Him is a dull and dreadfully written BL series, from the tedious plot to the cringy dialogue. Despite the sensual encounters, the couple's romance bores me. I can't find anything to recommend.

Episode Reviews

Episode 1

WTF is this opening scene!? I'm shocked by how awful the writing, dialogue, and acting is. My jaw dropped when he shoved the girl's head! The plot reminds me of Dinosaur Love in a bad way.

Episode 2

The couple's foreplay is so awkward. Let's skip to the kissing and sex scene without the embarrassing lines. This lighting looks flattering on Him's actor. I also like the music choices.

Episode 3

What did Chao pour on Phai's chest? Is it chocolate syrup? I don't care about Him's mysterious past or ex-boyfriend, but it's the only prominent story arc. Nothing else is happening.

Episode 4

The actor playing the ex (Kong) looks sharp on camera. I want to see him lead a BL drama. I hate the disjointed flashbacks, the same actor playing two roles, and the characters' hairstyles.

Episode 5

The writing is so dull, especially the mundane dialogue. Many conversations happen, but I can't remember anything memorable afterwards. The mystery is drawn-out and boring me.

Episode 6

It's weird how Him changed his attitude around Blue and treated him terribly. What happened? Was there a hidden reason behind his sudden transformation? This storyline feels unpleasant.

Episode 7

OMG, this series is so boring. I don't want to watch the scheming villains plot against Him. Nail should distance himself from all this drama. Him seems like a red flag and not worth dating.

Episode 8

If that's the whole story, Him should have treated Blue better. I understand why Te hates Him. It doesn't seem good for Him's mental health to date the same guy who looks like his dead ex.

Episode 9

This feels like another pointless episode. Are Him and Nail still not boyfriends yet? On second thought, I don't care what their relationship status is. All the sex scenes look vaguely similar.

Episode 10

This feels like the shortest episode yet. OMG! Why did the bad guy pull out a gun!? He shot Him!? That seems like a big escalation. Is their beef that serious? Ugh, let's wrap up this ridiculous drama.

Episode 11

After the shooting, Te suddenly drops his vendetta and becomes nice. His change is jarring, but whatever. The third couple seems random. Where did this other guy come from? I don't remember him.

Episode 12

Is the plot in this episode only about getting a tattoo? Whoa, there's a lot of foot action in this episode. At least the foot thing is a memorable novelty. It feels different from the other sex scenes.

  1. I only ended up watching all the episodes becuase I held onto some vague hope that it might get better (it did not).
I absolutely agree with everything you said, and I should add that this falls prey to one of my absolute pet peeves in any drama regardless of genre (but Thai BL's are some of the worst offenders for it)… Lack of hair continuity….
It distracts me so much when I can tell what was filmed out of sequence by how long the actor's roots are, or if they've freshly bleached and toned/coloured it. In other offending shows, such as Between Us, I was able to suspend disbelief because the writing, acting and chemistry were so good I didn't really care about the lead's roots.
But in this case, when a show has very little going for it, it kept getting on my nerves when from one scene to the next it looked like they might have stopped by a salon… Or taken a week vacation!
I understand that for budget reasons they may not be able to employee hair stylists/continuity people that can take care of this but then they should stop having characters with bleached/coloured hair….

  2. When I was watching for him,
I didn't think there will be a bl that will made me think twice before watching bl.
On a review in drama list, someone says there's a lot of unnecessary things in certain episode and he made the selection for us. If I knew that before, I would probably watch like he said.
Blue's story is unnecessary. 12 episodes are unnecessary. Those NC scenes are unnecessary. This is the first time I would like a bl to have less NC scenes. Even unforgotten night had a better plot.
The last episode was the more ridiculous for me
Since when someone made a tattoo on is back, let someone else feet go on it. And where those feet scenes came from. I was so embarrassed 😳
And my heart hurts for Ryan (Twins) and every others actors. And someone says they didn't even get paid.
The serie was a complete commercial clips.

  3. When I was watching For Him, I didn't know what the hell was going on. In one episode, they were talking about something; I don't remember what they were talking about. At the end of the episode, in mid-talk, they left a so-called cliffhanger. I thought in the next episode they would finish what they were saying, but no, they were at a different location and on a completely different topic. At that point, I decided to stop watching it and wait for you to rewrite it so you could make sense of it.
SO THANK YOU FOR MAKING SENSE OUT OF IT, so now I can watch it because I know what the fuck's going on.
