Fourever You – Series Review & Episode Guide

Ter is a first-year veterinary student. He has received a full scholarship, but one of the requirements is to join the student union and help organize campus activities. Ter is surprised to meet Hill, the student union president and basketball club captain. They knew each other in high school. Ter once had a crush on him, but they hadn't spoken in a long time. Now, being around Hill again leaves Ter flustered. Instead of facing his feelings, Ter tries to avoid Hill.

Ter shares a dorm room with North, an engineering student. The two have a close friendship and often tease each other. North is an avid gamer who spends most of his time playing online games with his buddies, Tiger, Nao, Q, and Ikkyu. Since North and Ter must make ends meet, they take on several part-time jobs together. They work as waiters at a sushi restaurant and baristas at a café. Coming from a poor single-parent family, North relies on these jobs to help cover his tuition.

Ter's family runs a dessert shop, and they were once very close. However, his relationship with his father became strained due to constant arguments. Ter eventually moved away from home. He was also close with his younger sister, Christmas. However, they stopped talking over a year ago. One reason is that Christmas has a crush on Hill, creating tension between them since both siblings like the same person. Now, Ter only keeps in touch with his mother occasionally. Despite missing his family deeply, he chooses to remain independent.

On orientation day, Ter befriends Phoon and Foam, his veterinary classmates. The three quickly form a close bond. They also meet Dao, the quiet art club president, whose clubroom is in an eerie, abandoned classroom that keeps most students away. Despite their lack of artistic skills, Ter, Phoon, Foam, and North all join the club to keep Dao company. Over time, the five of them become good friends and hang out together.

Hill is best friends with Johan, Tonfah, and Arthit. All four are medical students. Johan, who comes from a wealthy family, was once a rebellious teenager. He has cleaned up his act and works hard to take over the family business. Tonfah is kind and intelligent, often mentoring younger students. Arthit is athletic, flirty, and a bit of a playboy. Hill and his friends are some of the most popular students on campus. Their group often attracts attention, particularly from Ter and his friends.

Fourever You follows the same formula as every typical university drama, from the cliched campus storylines to the generic romance tropes. It reminds me of old-school Thai BL, but that's a polite way to say this series has zero originality. Nonetheless, you may still enjoy the humour. The characters love to banter, tease each other, or crack dumb jokes. While these playful interactions can be childish, they're amusing enough to lift your mood each episode. Fourever You makes up for its lack of innovation by being cute and funny.

I like Ter and Hill because they're the lighthearted version of Romeo and Juliet. Their story is a simple tale of two star-crossed lovers overcoming a forbidden relationship, which resonates with the hopeless romantic in me. Hill acts like the dream boyfriend. He's kind, doting, and as perfectly handsome as a fairytale prince. This couple can be slightly cheesy, like Hill planting a delicate kiss on Ter's hand, but I still find them sweet and sincere. However, their plot is too thin and doesn't have enough material besides the family drama. They take up more screen time than necessary, making some scenes feel redundant.

Judging by the online reception, North and Johan are the fan favourites. One is a goofball, the other is a tsundere, and they have a hilarious dynamic as two opposites attract. However, I can't get on board with the couple because Johan is a walking red flag. I hate how this manipulative control freak uses money as a form of coercion. Johan forces North into debt to regulate his behaviour, pressures him into quitting his job, and even buys the business where he works. If you love your partner, you'll allow him to be financially independent instead of relying on your support.

North's actor (Bas) is my MVP. His charismatic performance impresses me the most. Bas showcases his comedic chops, revealing a funny side I never knew he had. He brings North to life as a lovable character with plenty of personality. I appreciate how Bas and his co-star (Maxky) have a lot of physical affection, and the same goes for the other couple. This genre-savvy series delivers many BL-friendly optics, such as Johan grabbing North's tie to pull him in for a kiss. Even though I'm troubled by their relationship dynamic, this imagery appeals to me as a BL connoisseur.

Based on the title, I assumed Fourever You would have four couples. To my surprise, the relationship arcs for Fah & Phoon and Dao & Arthit won't start until Season 2. Despite being sixteen freaking hours long, the series still runs out of time for half the pairings. It baffles me why Ter & Hill and North & Johan take forever to get together when their storylines are straightforward. The series drags out the plot with repetitive conversations, mundane interactions, and unnecessary flashbacks. It should've cut the excess content to create a quicker, tighter narrative.

Fourever You is too long, and fatigue sets in toward the end. The series scrapes the bottom of the barrel for storylines, such as stretching out hours of pointless drama over a business trip. That said, the episodes never become unwatchable. There are still a few funny jokes, cute romantic encounters, and a surprisingly engaging subplot with Tiger & Nao. The heartfelt finale finishes the story positively, so the humour and sentimentality soften my frustration. Fourever You is an okay BL drama if I lower my expectations and treat it as silly, lighthearted fluff.
