![The best BL dramas of 2024 include Love in the Big City, See Your Love, and Our Youth. Other top BL series include Spare Me Your Mercy, Ossan's Love Returns, and The Time of Fever.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Best-2024-BL-Series-and-Dramas.jpg)
2024 saw a record-breaking number of BL dramas. Fans have the pleasure of enjoying many Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, and Thai series. My top pick is Our Youth, a mature high school drama with sophisticated themes. This beloved series has attracted a lot of buzz in BL circles. In addition, See Your Love is another favourite. The story, which features a protagonist with hearing loss, is full of meaningful messages. It also includes a sweet, lighthearted romance.
Love in the Big City is another excellent BL drama. Adapted from a Booker Prize-longlisted novel, the story is about a single gay man and his heartbreaking experiences with dating. It differs from most BL dramas, which depict an idealized version of a love story. Instead, Love in the Big City shatters that fantasy by depicting romance with brutal honesty. Besides its intelligent themes, the series also includes many steamy exchanges. Every kiss is iconic!
I will review and rank new BL dramas as they are released. Check out the most popular BL series of 2024.

Love Is A Poison
![Love Is A Poison](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Katsumi-Hyodo-B.jpg)
Love Is A Poison is a Japanese BL series about a successful lawyer and his relationship with a mysterious flirt. 89% Love Is A Poison is an entertaining BL drama that combines humour and romance perfectly. The couple's journey of falling in love is compelling. Their relationship scenes are funny, flirty, and heartfelt.
Entertaining story Love Is A Poison combines a fun romance with cheeky comedy. Each episode keeps us laughing with jokes and swooning over the couple's flirtation. The courtroom subplots are less entertaining.
Fascinating romance Shiba and Haruto have a fascinating romantic arc as two opposites fall in love. Early on, there's a lot of saucy flirtation. Later, they share many cute exchanges. This couple is rootable either way!
Intriguing acting Haruto's actor (Katsumi Hyodo) brings captivating charm and nuance to his role, creating an intriguing character. His co-star (Shoga Haba) displays a comedic flair whenever Shiba's stoic facade cracks.
Living With Him
![Living With Him](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Ryuga-Sato-2024-C.jpg)
Living With Him is a Japanese BL series about two childhood friends who become university roommates. As suggested by their families, the main characters move into the same apartment to save rent. 88% Living With Him is a gentle, feel-good BL drama that delivers a wholesome friends-to-lovers romance. I adore the heartwarming exchanges and positive vibes throughout the story.
Wholesome story Living With Him tells a simple, sweet love story between childhood friends. Despite the low-stakes plot, the storytelling is elegant, thoughtfully crafted, and contains emotional nuances.
Relatable romance Although lacking in physical passion, the series highlights Ryota & Kazuhito's emotional bond. They grow closer through ordinary moments of domestic bliss, making their connection relatable.
Average acting Both leads deliver enough enthusiasm to engage the viewers. However, they can come off as slightly forceful when emoting, especially Ryota's actor (Sho Sakai) and his unnatural expressions.
Cherry Magic Anime
![Cherry Magic](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Ryouta-Suzuki-2024.jpg)
Cherry Magic is a Japanese BL anime series about an office worker with mind-reading powers. The main character is an ordinary employee who has never dated anyone before. He feels insecure about his lack of love life, especially as a thirty-year-old. Recently, the protagonist gains the ability to hear other people's thoughts. Sincere romance Adachi and Kurosawa's romance unfolds in a captivating journey. As the couple falls in love, they develop a genuine emotional bond. Tsuge and Minato are also an adorable secondary couple.
Attractive visuals Generally, I like how everything looks in the anime. However, the art quality can be inconsistent. The character designs may look less polished or detailed during some episodes.
Don't Care for an Old Man's Underwear
![Don't Care for an Old Man's Underwear](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Sota-Nakajima-2024-D.jpg)
Don't Care for an Old Man's Underwear is a Japanese series about a homophobic father who feels alienated from his family. The main character is an ordinary office worker from a middle-class background. Due to his prejudices, his children won't talk to him. His teenage son is so overwhelmed that he refuses to leave the bedroom. Determined to mend these broken relationships, the protagonist must change his ignorant views.
86% Don't Care for an Old Man's Underwear is a feel-good family drama with meaningful LGBTQ+ themes. While the gay romance is disappointing, I adore the story's positive messages about empathy.
Uplifting story Don't Care for an Old Man's Underwear tells an uplifting story with LGBTQ+ themes. Although the characters struggle initially, the main focus is their growth, enlightenment, and self-acceptance.
Underwhelming romance The lacklustre BL couple keeps this series from being one of my favourites. Daichi and Madoka's romantic arc feels more like a necessary plot device than a compelling relationship.
Dynamic acting Makoto's expressive actor (Taizo Harada) nails the comedic scenes and captures the role of a bewildered father. Madoka's performer (Keisuke Higashi) overacts and diminishes the dramatic moments.
Twilight Out of Focus
![Twilight Out of Focus](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Twilight-Out-of-Focus-Character-Hisashi-B.jpg)
Twilight Out of Focus is a Japanese BL anime series about a high school film club. The main character recruits his roommate to star in a short movie. They must confront their feelings for each other during filming. In addition, the other club members are involved in unlikely romances. A pair of school rivals go from enemies to lovers. Also, two students with opposite backgrounds and personalities discover their compatibility.
85% Twilight Out of Focus is visually stunning and emotionally sensitive. Despite some narrative flaws, this anime has three sweet and charming romances that make the BL fan in me giddy.
Introspective story Twilight Out of Focus tells a sensitive love story with introspective characters on emotional journeys. Some scenes and lines can be too theatrical. The speeches are also long-winded.
Sensitive romances The anime presents three couples, each with unique relationship dynamics. Although they fall in love too quickly, I enjoy their romantic moments and passionate climaxes.
Enchanting visuals Each episode looks dazzling with bright colours, warm lighting, and dreamy aesthetics. The romantic exchanges shine the most, conveying affection and tenderness beautifully.
I Hear the Sunspot
![I Hear the Sunspot](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Motoki-Nakazawa-2024.jpg)
I Hear the Sunspot is a Japanese BL series about a university student with severe hearing loss. The main character feels self-conscious about his condition and struggles to adjust to school life. Surprisingly, he meets a cheerful student who perceives him beyond his hearing impairment. His new friend offers to help him come out of his shell. As their bond deepens, the protagonists develop secret feelings for each other.
82% I Hear the Sunspot starts strongly with engaging storylines, endearing characters, and enormous promise. Yet, the series struggles to develop the couple's romance compellingly.
Meaningful story I Hear the Sunspot tells a meaningful story about a protagonist with a hearing impairment. It portrays his emotional journey sensitively and empowers the viewers with messages about inclusivity.
Reluctant romance Despite Kohei and Taichi's natural rapport, their love story remains stalled by frequent miscommunication and missed opportunities. The series seems reluctant to venture into romantic territory.
Sincere acting Kohei's actor (Motoki Nakazawa) brings a sweet sincerity to his role, evoking empathy from the audience. His costar (Toranosuke Kobayashi) dazzles with infectious energy and cheeky charm.
Tadaima, Okaeri
![Tadaima, Okaeri](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Tadaima-Okaeri-Character-Matsuki-B.jpg)
Tadaima, Okaeri is a Japanese BL omegaverse anime series about a family raising a child in a suburban neighbourhood. The main characters are happily married and proud parents to an adorable toddler. Each day, they enjoy domestic bliss and new parenthood experiences. Despite their family harmony, this same-sex couple often encounters prejudice. The protagonists must support each other as they endure harassment and discrimination.
81% Tadaima, Okaeri is a cute slice-of-life anime with a positive depiction of same-sex parenting. While the story can be overly sweet, I enjoy the playful antics and feel comforted by the family warmth.
Sentimental story Tadaima, Okaeri has a sweet story about a same-sex family, showcasing their lighthearted antics. The plot can be too predictable and annoys me with over-the-top positivity.
Supportive romance Masaki and Hiromu are portrayed as a well-adjusted married couple in a loving family. I appreciate the story's positive depiction of gay parenting, especially in a genre lacking representation.
Decent visuals The series looks mostly decent, although the art quality slips occasionally. You can tell that the staff put more effort into certain episodes, which look much better visually.
Given Movie 2: Hiiragi Mix
![Given Movie 2: Hiiragi Mix](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Given-Movie-2-Hiiragi-Mix-Character-Hiiragi-B.jpg)
Given Movie 2: Hiiragi Mix is the second film sequel to the Japanese BL anime series. It follows a group of aspiring musicians and their romantic endeavours. The main character is in an amateur rock band with his childhood best friends. After their lead vocalist died, his absence weighs heavily on the two remaining members. They rely on each other for emotional support, yet their unspoken feelings complicate this relationship.
80% Given Movie 2: Hiiragi Mix is a decent sequel that brings intelligent themes and emotional nuances to the original story. The new couple's romance is rushed, but they still have memorable scenes.
Intelligent story Given Movie 2: Hiiragi Mix brings thoughtful storylines with intelligent themes. It's more compelling when examining Mafuyu's grief and less so when rushing through Hiiragi and Shizu's drama.
Affectionate romance Hiiragi & Shizu's relationship drama feels awkwardly inserted into the narrative. They need more time to flesh out their feelings. I still enjoy their rapport, romantic moments, and physical affection.
Solid visuals The movie has a solid visual presentation, maintaining its usual clean and polished art style. This anime is excellent at setting ambiance to evoke strong emotions during significant moments.
Chastity High
![Chastity High](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Kyoya-Honda-2024-B.jpg)
Chastity High is a Japanese high school series with a BL subplot. The main character attends a prestigious academy that forbids its students from dating. If caught, any rule breakers will be expelled. Despite this policy, those in undercover relationships still risk everything for love. The protagonist catches each couple in the act and blackmails them to pay for her tuition. When she becomes infamous on campus, her extortion tactics have consequences.
79% Chastity High offers an entertaining mix of scandal, twists, and over-the-top storytelling. Despite many problematic tropes, this shameless teen drama embraces its naughty shenanigans.
Entertaining story Chastity High has a delightfully over-the-top story with constant thrills and entertaining twists. The chaos pushes the characters to emotional extremes, causing explosive confrontations.
Scandalous romance Chastity High focuses on the scandalous relationships between men and women. The gay couple is insignificant to the series. Even so, BL icon Kyoya Honda looks adorable with his angelic smile.
Intense acting While the lead actress (Ai Mikami) delivers a solid performance, the supporting cast struggles with emoting. Maki's actor (Ryubi Miyase) seems out of his depth during dramatic scenes.
My Sunshine
![My Sunshine](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Sosuke-Ikematsu-2024-C.jpg)
My Sunshine is a Japanese movie about a skating coach and his two students. After moving to a small town, the main character teaches figure skating to a young girl. These lessons intrigue a boy on the hockey team, who starts practicing alone at the rink. Despite his clumsiness, he shows lots of enthusiasm. The protagonist recognizes his potential and takes him under his wing. As his mentor, he inspires the child's journey of self-discovery.
79% My Sunshine is a beautifully crafted movie with uplifting themes, sensitive emotions, and sincere characters. I enjoyed the film, even if the romance is mild and the ending feels heartbreaking.
Uplifting story My Sunshine is an uplifting coming-of-age story about Takuya's journey as a figure skater. It captures his emotional growth, challenges stereotypes, and creates a heartwarming narrative.
Mild romance Arakawa is gay and has several relationship scenes with his partner. However, their romance is only a minor subplot in the story. From a BL fan's perspective, the love story lacks depth.
Sincere acting Arakawa's actor (Sosuke Ikematsu) delivers a heartfelt performance that strengthens the story's emotional impact. The two young leads also dazzle in their impressive ice-dancing routine.
Takara's Treasure
![Takara's Treasure](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Eito-Konishi-2024.jpg)
Takara's Treasure is a Japanese BL series about the romance between a university freshman and the senior he idolizes. Years ago, the main character met a kind stranger and shared a special moment with him. Although their exchange was brief, the protagonist carried fond memories of that night. Now that they attend the same school, the protagonist wants them to be friends. However, he discovers their personalities may be quite different.
79% Takara's Treasure is a cozy BL drama with gentle plots, endearing characters, and wholesome exchanges. The couple lacks sparks in this slow-burn romance, but I still enjoy their precious moments.
Gentle story Takara's Treasure offers thoughtful storylines with positive messages and wholesome characters. This gentle series never evokes strong emotions, but I consistently enjoy each episode.
Slow-burn romance The slow-burn romance develops gradually. Despite some sweet relationship moments, the lack of physical intimacy and sexual tension left me skeptical of this couple.
Charming acting Takara's actor (Yoji Iwase) delivers a solid performance. His costar (Eito Konishi) exudes an innocent charm, but he makes his character seem overly childlike with an exaggerated naivete.
Mr. Mitsuya's Planned Feeding
![Mr. Mitsuya's Planned Feeding](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Taisei-Sakai-2024-B.jpg)
Mr. Mitsuya's Planned Feeding is a Japanese BL series about a celebrity chef, a magazine editor, and the significant age gap in their romance. The main character is in his twenties and works for a famous publication. One day, his boss assigns him to work with a culinary specialist in his fifties. As they meet regularly, the protagonist is in awe of the older man's wisdom, kindness, and down-to-earth charm. He slowly develops a secret crush.
78% Mr. Mitsuya's Planned Feeding delivers a cheerful, thoughtful, and sentimental story. However, the couple's significant age gap complicates this romance. I remain unconvinced by their attraction.
Uplifting story Mr. Mitsuya's Planned Feeding tells a thoughtful story with warmth and sentimentality. It portrays the couple's age gap as respectfully as possible and highlights the realistic issues they may face.
Mild romance Mitsuya & Ishida's 25-year age difference creates an unconventional romance. I'm still not convinced by this couple. Their relationship leans toward a platonic bond rather than a romantic attraction.
Sincere acting Ishida's actor (Taisei Sakai) brings cheerful enthusiasm to his role. His earnest reactions and wide-eyed wonder make the character endearing. Kaoru's actor (Tomomi Maruyama) is also charismatic.
Smells Like Green Spirit
![Smells Like Green Spirit](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Shunta-Sono-2024.jpg)
Smells Like Green Spirit is a Japanese BL series about a bullied high school student from a rural town. The main character is a gentle teenager mocked for his long hair, which doesn't fit traditional ideas of masculinity. At home, he secretly experiments with his mother's makeup. One day, the protagonist learns a surprising secret about his classmate and discovers they have much in common. They begin to bond over their shared interests.
78% Smells Like Green Spirit is a unique teen drama with strong LGBTQ+ themes and emotional character arcs. It focuses excessively on trauma, including over-the-top depictions of abuse and bullying.
Dramatic story Smells Like Green Spirit tells a quirky LGBTQ+ story, balancing heartfelt moments with explosive drama. It has an intense focus on abuse and trauma. The lead suffers from bullying and sexual abuse.
Strange romance I like the cozy friendship between Mishima and Kirino. However, Mishima's romance with his bully is bizarre. They make a mismatched couple in a weirdly developed relationship.
Theatrical acting Some cast members, like the lead (Towa Araki) or the actress playing his mom, portray their roles sensitively. Others can overact, exaggerating their reactions in a way that clashes with the vibe.
Love Is Better the Second Time Around
![Love Is Better the Second Time Around](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Makato-Hasegawa-2024-B.jpg)
Love Is Better the Second Time Around is a Japanese BL series about a former couple who reunites years later and rekindles their romance. The main character is surprised to meet his high school sweetheart during a work assignment. The protagonists used to be in love and wanted to elope together, but they haven't kept in touch since their breakup. As they navigate their professional boundaries, both struggle with lingering feelings for each other.
76% Love Is Better the Second Time Around starts strong with playful moments and riveting relationship drama. However, the cluttered storytelling in the last two episodes has dampened my enthusiasm.
Mature story Love Is Better the Second Time Around focuses on a former couple's relationship drama, but the plot feels rushed in the last two episodes. The mature storyline seems geared toward an older audience.
Intriguing romance Miyata and Takashi's relationship drama has riveting moments as they rekindle their feelings. However, the romantic development feels sidelined in the latter part of the series.

Sugar Dog Life is a Japanese BL series about a police officer, a convenience store worker, and their ambiguous relationship. The main character is a university student who works a part-time job. He meets the friendly neighbourhood cop and notices his poor diet. After getting to know each other, they start eating homemade meals together. The protagonist develops a secret crush, but he suspects his feelings are not reciprocated.
75% Sugar Dog Life offers a sweet love story with charming characters and attractive visuals. The series begins strongly, but the later episodes falter because the ambiguous romance keeps stalling.
Sweet story Sugar Dog Life begins energetically, balancing sweetness and playfulness in many cute exchanges. The story stretches the relationship drama and loses momentum in the later episodes.
Ambiguous romance Both leads are sweethearts who seem compatible based on their sincere personalities. As their ambiguous relationship stalls, they frustrate me with the vagueness between friendship and romance.
Charming acting Isumi's actor (Koki Tanaka) looks highly telegenic and engages me with his charming performance. His costar (Hideya Tawada) has a more limiting role that doesn't showcase his range.
Let's Eat Together, Aki and Haru 2
![Let's Eat Together, Aki and Haru: More Please!](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Kensuke-Takahashi-2024.jpg)

The main characters are university seniors worried about their future after graduation. With job searches looming, the possibility of going their separate ways concerns the protagonists. As their friendship faces new challenges, they may be forced to confront their deeper feelings.
74% Let's Eat Together, Aki and Haru: More Please is a feel-good sequel that retains the charm of the original. While the love story lacks depth, the film's warmth, humour, and gentle tone make it enjoyable.
Gentle story Let's Eat Together, Aki and Haru 2 balances its cheerful humour with thoughtful character arcs, although the love story remains too light. This gentle movie avoids making the conflicts feel stressful.
Timid romance Both leads are sweethearts who seem compatible based on their sincere personalities. As their ambiguous relationship stalls, they frustrate me with the vagueness between friendship and romance.
Lively acting Isumi's actor (Koki Tanaka) looks highly telegenic and engages me with his charming performance. His costar (Hideya Tawada) has a more limiting role that doesn't showcase his range.

The trio agrees to rent a house together and become roommates. The protagonist secretly harbours a crush on his photographer friend, who appears unaware of his feelings. He turns to his other friend for relationship advice, and they also develop a close bond.
74% Me, Him, and You is a gentle love story with a soothing atmosphere, but the formulaic love triangle may bore you. This down-to-earth series resolves conflicts thoughtfully and avoids melodrama.
Mellow story Me, Him, and You offers a gentle story that avoids too much angst, conflicts, or melodrama. It emphasizes the emotional bond between the characters, although the plot may feel slightly ordinary.
Modest romance The series revolves around a love triangle between three roommates, but the outcome seems predictable after a while. I prefer Takumi and Daiya as a couple, whereas Ryoji is a less interesting love interest.
Sensitive acting Takumi's actor (Hiroki Ijima) delivers an emotionally sensitive performance with warmth in his expressions. While his co-stars are less remarkable, Hiroki leaves a positive impression.

![Love in the Big City](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Korean-Actor-Steve-Noh-2024.jpg)
Love in the Big City is a Korean movie about a free-spirited young woman and her gay best friend. The main character is still in the closet. When a university classmate catches him kissing a guy, she helps him maintain his public facade. They become best friends, even though her unpredictable nature clashes with his cynical personality. After moving in together as roommates, they spend their twenties navigating the ups and downs of young adulthood.

Heartfelt story Love in the Big City offers a heartfelt story about two misfits, highlighting their friendship through entertaining scenes. Both characters have complex personalities and memorable experiences.
Volatile romance While Heung Soo's love life is a prominent storyline, it often focuses on conflict rather than a romantic connection. His love interest is underdeveloped. Overall, the gay subplot lacks depth.
Authentic acting Jae Hee's actress (Kim Go Eun) is incredibly authentic. She captures her character's strength and vulnerability. She gels well with her co-star (Steve Noh), who delivers a compelling performance.

![You Want Some](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Korean-Actor-Lee-Min-Wook-2024-F.jpg)

He realizes they are all interested in a popular classmate with a reputation as a ladies' man. His rival claims he can make anyone fall in love with him, including the skeptical protagonist. They challenge one another in a playful game of flirtation.
77% You Want Some is a fast-paced BL drama that delivers a funny and flirty love story. The lead is also charismatic. While some parts are rushed or disjointed, I still enjoyed this lighthearted romcom.
Fast-paced story You Want Some offers a fast-paced love story that develops the couple's relationship quickly. Despite some exhilarating moments, the story feels rushed and skips over some details.
Delightful romance Despite my initial skepticism, I was won over by the couple's cute and charming relationship moments. Their rivals-to-lovers journey is filled with humour and flirtation, making each scene fun to watch.
Charismatic acting Jaeheon's actor (Lee Min Wook) brings loads of charisma to the role. This handsome star handles the comedic scenes well. In addition, he's effortlessly suave during the romantic encounters.
My Damn Business
![My Damn Business](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Korean-Actor-Jung-Jae-Bin-2024.jpg)
My Damn Business is a Korean office BL series about two employees at a struggling company. During a staff layoff, the main character is the only employee who can keep his job in the sales department. To compensate, a new temp joins his team for three months. The pair works together and maintains professional boundaries for a while. However, an awkward misunderstanding changes their relationship and brings them closer.
75% My Damn Business delivers a simple, lighthearted office BL drama. While the love story has narrative flaws, the charming humour and charismatic leads make this series enjoyable.
Casual story My Damn Business is a lighthearted office rom-com. While the plot doesn't reinvent the BL formula, the witty humour and simple storytelling work well for a fun, casual watch.
Playful romance Woo-jin & Su-an's office romance follows an enemies-to-lovers arc. While not all scenes are exciting and unique, the leads share enough playful moments to make the relationship mildly entertaining.
Confident acting Woo-jin's actor (Jung Jae Bin) brings a charismatic swagger, making even mundane scenes enjoyable. His costar (Jeon Yu Bin) complements his role with a moody yet endearing portrayal.
Fragile
![Fragile](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Fragile-Character-San-B.jpg)
Fragile is a Korean high school series with a hidden BL subplot. After being ostracized by her classmates, the main character struggles with rumours about her reputation. She befriends a new exchange student who doesn't care about the gossip. They grow closer with a few other girls, forming a tight-knit circle. The protagonist is in a steady relationship with her boyfriend. However, she feels insecure and suspects he may be cheating on her.
74% Fragile is an enjoyable teen drama with characters and friendships that I adore. The BL subplot is relatively minor, while the straight couple's relationship angst can be frustrating.
Dramatic story Fragile has a similar plot to the original Skam. The story doesn't differentiate itself much from your stereotypical teen drama, but I still like the characters and their friendships.
Minor romance Fragile has a minor BL subplot with a closeted gay character and a short kissing scene. However, it only emerges near the end. The straight couple's romance is the main focus.
Acceptable acting Although Ji Yu is too mopey, her actress (Kim So Hui) delivers an acceptable performance. The rest of the cast takes a while to settle into their roles, but they soon embody their characters naturally.

![See Your Love](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Taiwanese-Actor-Raiden-Lin-2025-B.jpg)

Out of kindness, he invites the boy to live with him. Over the years, their bond becomes so close that they consider each other brothers.
84% Unknown delivers a compelling romance with emotionally gripping moments. While the story could be written better, the couple's excellent chemistry and epic journey leave a positive impression.
Powerful story Unknown begins with an emotionally gripping premiere that sets up an epic relationship. The narrative's pacing falters midway, as poor storytelling undermines the potential for compelling arcs.
Emotional romance Qian and Yuan's romance begins emotionally and finishes satisfyingly, even if the couple hits a rough patch in the middle. Some BL fans may feel uncomfortable with the incestuous undertones.
Compelling acting Both leads (Chris Chiu and Kurt Huang) have moments where they shine throughout the series. Their compelling chemistry as a couple makes this romance more convincing.
Let's Talk About Chu
![Let's Talk About Chu](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Taiwanese-Actor-JC-Lin-2024.jpg)
Let's Talk About Chu is a Taiwanese series about three siblings and their relationship drama. The main character is the youngest child in her family. She clashes with her traditional parents, who condemn her sex positivity. Her married sister faces pressure to have kids, while her gay brother seems secretive about his life. The protagonist begins a casual fling with her friend. She doesn't want them to develop serious feelings.
82% Let's Talk About Chu features entertaining storylines, dysfunctional relationships, and a bold approach to sex positivity. While the gay romance isn't the main focus, the couple shares fun interactions.
Entertaining story Let's Talk About Chu has entertaining storylines about family, love, and sex. From messy behaviour to dysfunctional relationships, I enjoy the complex characters and their cheeky hijinks.
Spicy romance Let's Talk About Chu has a prominent gay romantic subplot. Yu Sen and Yueh make a fun couple with enjoyable relationship scenes. I wish they received more focus over the straight pairings.
Natural acting The cast gels well together and shares natural chemistry. My favourite is Yu Sen's actor (JC Lin), who portrays a fascinating character. I love this beefcake's sullen gazes and bashful smiles.
First Note of Love
![First Note of Love](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Taiwanese-Actor-Michael-Chang-2024-C.jpg)
First Note of Love is a Taiwanese BL series about the romance between a singer and a songwriter. The main character is a famous band member who left the spotlight after his brother's death. He has struggled with performance anxiety. Years later, his manager pushes him to stage a comeback. They bring in a young songwriting prodigy to help with his return. Despite their different backgrounds and personalities, the two form a close bond.
80% First Note of Love is a gentle BL drama with meaningful character arcs, even if some parts of the story may be slow or uneventful. Sea is an adorable protagonist, and his actor does a great job.
Slow story First Note of Love focuses on a therapeutic journey of grief and healing. Despite the heartfelt moments and Sea's lovable character, the story's pacing is too slow and suffers from excessive filler.
Supportive romance Although their relationship isn't that passionate, Sea and Neil have a sweet, supportive romance. They help each other heal from trauma. The secondary couple doesn't interest me.
Adorable acting Sea's actor (Michael Chang) is so cute, and I'm completely besotted with him. He captures his character's timidness through nervous glances and shy smiles. He's also great in dramatic scenes.
The Nipple Talk
![The Nipple Talk](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Taiwanese-Actor-Bryan-Chang-2024-C.jpg)
The Nipple Talk is a Taiwanese series about a group of friends and their spicy love lives. The main character is confident in her sexuality. With no plans to settle down, this single lady only wants to hook up with hot men. Her lesbian friend also enjoys casual flings, not taking any relationship seriously. In contrast, their gay bestie is committed to his long-term boyfriend and wants to get married. However, his romance has been cooling off recently.
73% The Nipple Talk is a progressive drama with LGBTQ+ themes and many sexy moments. However, the storylines are too shallow. Even the romances, including the gay couple, feel basic and superficial.
Shallow story The Nipple Talk focuses on random love interests who come and go after their one-episode stints. Many story arcs, especially Xuan's subplots, are shallow and don't hold my attention.
Sexy romance This series focuses a lot on sex, never shying away from racy encounters. The gay couple is likeable, but their romance feels vanilla and doesn't develop deeply.
Okay acting Pony's lead (Cosmos Lin) is decent, but Leslie's actor (Bryan Chang) emotes awkwardly. Yuan's actress (Lucia) lacks energy in her performance. The cast shares a smooth rapport in group scenes.

90% Spare Me Your Mercy is a masterful drama with intelligent themes and a compelling mystery. This profound series challenges its audience to think, feel, and wrestle with difficult moral questions.
Profound story Spare Me Your Mercy offers a sad and sophisticated story. It tackles meaningful topics about helping terminally ill patients with the right to die, raising complex questions about morality.
Complicated romance The romance is complicated and controversial. Accusing your love interest of murder feels like a mood killer. Tew is also emotionally reserved, so his shyness over intimacy may frustrate you.
Powerful acting The cast delivers exceptional performances, especially during dramatic scenes. Tor captures Kan's emotional complexity, while JJ reveals subtle vulnerability beneath Tew's tough exterior.
The Paradise of Thorns
![The Paradise of Thorns](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Thai-Actor-Jeff-Satur-2024.jpg)
The Paradise of Thorns is a Thai movie about a gay couple who runs a durian orchard. The main character is married to his husband, yet their relationship isn't legally recognized. As business partners, they have invested their savings into building the orchard together. After an accident, the protagonist must deal with his lover's family, who suddenly want to take over the operations. They clash in a fierce inheritance battle.
84% The Paradise of Thorns is an exhilarating movie with intense drama, high emotions, and breathtaking performances. While the romances are lacklustre, the film captures your attention from start to finish.
Exhilarating story The Paradise of Thorns takes viewers on a wild, unpredictable journey of twists and turns. With high stakes and intense drama, the story keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
Basic romance The movie features two gay romances. Both couples are physically intimate, but they lack emotional depth. Their relationships feel underdeveloped, taking a backseat to the angsty plot.
Captivating acting Jeff Satur delivers an outstanding performance as Thongkam, portraying his character's vulnerability well. The two actresses are also phenomenal, particularly when they emote.
Every You, Every Me
![Every You, Every Me](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Thai-Actor-Top-Piyawat-Phongkanitanon-2024-B.jpg)
Every You, Every Me is a Thai BL anthology series with five short love stories. The first romance is about two colourblind characters who regain their vision after meeting. Another tells the story of a boss and his new secretary falling for each other. The third revolves around a mechanic with a secret crush, while the fourth centres on a musician's relationship with an artist. The final story brings together a pair of ex-boyfriends who recently broke up.
77% Every You, Every Me is an enjoyable anthology series with a clever twist at the end. While the quality can be uneven, some of the better stories are charming and highlight the couple's chemistry.
Clever story Every You, Every Me is an anthology of five short stories, and the final arc cleverly connects them all. Despite the creativity, the quality is inconsistent. The angsty drama tends to be less enjoyable.
Charming romance The series offers a mix of charming love stories. Some are flirty and playful, while others lean into drama. The second and fourth stories shine the most, showcasing the chemistry between the leads.
Adaptable acting The same actors take on different roles across the five stories. I admire their ability to adapt to new characters each time. However, their crying performances feel too hammy.
Fourever You
![Fourever You](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Thai-Actor-Pond-Ponlawit-Ketprapakorn-2024-D.jpg)
Fourever You is a Thai BL series about two university couples and their campus relationships. After joining the student union, the main character feels flustered around the handsome and popular president. They used to know each other from high school. As romantic sparks develop, the protagonist is unsure whether to pursue his feelings. Meanwhile, his roommate owes money to a wealthy senior, who uses this opportunity to hit on him.
75% Fourever You is overly long and filled with cliched tropes, not differentiating itself from any university BL drama. Even so, you may still enjoy the playful humour, sweet romances, and dreamy leads.
Cliched story Fourever You takes the story back to basics. It's as cliched as any generic university BL series. While it lacks originality, the silliness and lighthearted humour keep the episodes entertaining.
Dreamy romances Ter and Hill have a sweet, fairytale-like romance, but I hate how Johan strips away North's financial autonomy. Both couples hog too much spotlight, so the other two pairs won't start until Season 2.
Charismatic acting North's actor (Bas) impresses me the most, especially his comedic talent during funny moments. I also appreciate the cast's willingness to show physical affection during romantic encounters.
To Be Continued
![To Be Continued](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Thai-Actor-Fluke-Pongsapat-Kankam-2024.jpg)
To Be Continued is a Thai BL series about a doctor and a celebrity who reunite after ten years apart. The main character was once close with another teenager in the neighbourhood, but their relationship soured before they left for university. A decade later, the protagonist is shocked to cross paths with his former friend, who has become a famous idol. He's torn between holding a grudge and confronting the romantic feelings that resurface.
75% To Be Continued has a heartwarming tone and endearing moments that make me smile. However, the story goes around in circles instead of moving forward. I'm annoyed by the couple's conflict.
Aimless story To Be Continued has meaningful themes about healing and reconciliation. As much as I like the story's gentle vibes, the narrative meanders aimlessly instead of progressing the plot.
Frustrating romance While Ji and Achi share some sweet moments, their prolonged feud weakens the romance. When the reason for their fallout is revealed, it feels trivial. I'm annoyed by their petty misunderstanding.
Charming acting Fluke Pongsapat is an adorable cutie with an angelic face, especially in lighthearted scenes with his co-star (Junior). I also like Gumbi's actor (Baan), who's bursting with affable charm.

Best characters
![Sea is one of the best characters.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Taiwanese-Actor-Michael-Chang-2024-C.jpg)
Sea is a young songwriting prodigy in First Note of Love. I adore his character so much. I instantly became attached to him as soon as he flashed that bashful smile. My favourite archetype is the sweet, shy, and sensitive protagonist, which Sea fits perfectly. Nobody can win over BL Watcher's heart more than a cute twink with an aura of sadness.
![Nam Kyu is one of the best characters.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Korean-Actor-Kwon-Hyuk-2024.jpg)

![Taichi is one of the best characters.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Toranosuke-Kobayashi-2024.jpg)

Don't Care for an Old Man's Underwear
![Daichi is one of the best characters.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Sota-Nakajima-2024-D.jpg)
Daichi is one of the main characters from Don't Care for an Old Man's Underwear. The story's protagonist is an ignorant father, but Daichi helps enlighten his views. Like an LGBTQ+ helpline in human form, his character offers thoughtful advice. I admire Daichi's graciousness, confronting prejudices without losing his composure. He takes the high road when others go low.
![Yu Sen is one of the best characters.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Taiwanese-Actor-JC-Lin-2024.jpg)
Yu Sen is one of the leads in Let's Talk About Chu. I like him because he doesn't resemble a typical protagonist in a BL drama. A poker player is a niche career and rarely depicted in gay love stories. Due to his gambling profession, you may expect his character to be poised and self-assured. Yet, Yu Sen is actually tense and awkward in real life. He constantly defies stereotypes, so you can't put him in a box.
Funniest comedies
![Ossan's Love Returns is one of the funniest comedies.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Kei-Tanaka-2024-2.jpg)
Ossan's Love Returns is the 2024 sequel to the beloved Japanese franchise. Fans will be pleased to know that the comedic writing is in top form. This series is packed with so much wacky humour, silly gags, cheeky punchlines, and comically absurd scenarios. When Ossan's Love Returns hits its stride, it's a strong contender for one of the funniest BL dramas ever.
![Love Is A Poison is one of the funniest comedies.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Katsumi-Hyodo-B.jpg)
Love Is A Poison has a romance between a successful lawyer and a mysterious flirt. This story often mixes romantic scenarios with a bit of cheeky mischief. The couple's flirting feels playful, finding just the right balance of sweetness and spiciness. The series doesn't take itself too seriously, and you'll be too busy laughing to care that Love Is A Poison is over the top.
![My Damn Business is one of the funniest comedies.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Korean-Actor-Jung-Jae-Bin-2024.jpg)
My Damn Business is about two employees at a struggling company. This lighthearted office romcom likes to have fun, filling each episode with cheeky banter and amusing scenarios. The writing is surprisingly witty. You can just sit back, relax, and laugh at all the silly jokes.
![You Want Some is one of the funniest comedies.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Korean-Actor-Lee-Min-Wook-2024-F.jpg)
You Want Some? is about two university students trying to seduce each other. Their enemies-to-lovers journey unfolds with lots of humour and charm. It adds a cheeky joke here, a flirty moment there, and follows up with a touch of saucy relationship drama. The series finds its groove as a cute and playful romantic comedy.
Most creative
![Smells Like Green Spirit is one of the most creative BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Shunta-Sono-2024.jpg)
Smells Like Green Spirit is a story about a bullied high school student from a small rural town. Like the absolute antithesis of BL, this unconventional teen drama overturns every narrative trope in the genre. The romance has an odd twist, the characters come with eccentric quirks, and the plot is chaotic as hell. Smells Like Green Spirit feels drastically different from the norm, which I find exciting.
![Love for Love's Sake is one of the most creative BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Korean-Actor-Cha-Joo-Wan-2024.jpg)
In Love for Love's Sake, the main character enters a universe that resembles a virtual video game. He must navigate decision trees, mission objectives, and even affinity systems. The story explores many quirky scenarios, impressing me with all the clever ideas.
![To Pee or Not To Pee is one of the most creative BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Taiwanese-Actor-Cho-Kai-Cheng.jpg)
In To Pee or Not To Pee, the main character has a health condition and can't control his bladder. It's an incredibly original story with a creative premise. I didn't think it was possible to create a romance around bladder control, but this short movie finds an interesting way to explore an unusual topic.
![Latex is one of the most creative BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Korean-Actor-Choi-Kwang-Won-2024.jpg)
In Latex, the protagonist has psychometric powers and can read people's memories by touching their personal belongings. Cleverly, he uses his ability to make money and seduce men. I love seeing him apply his powers in interesting situations. Unfortunately, the film is too short and can't explore this complex concept in depth.
![Anti Reset is one of the most creative BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Taiwanese-Actor-Roy-Wu-2024.jpg)
Anti Reset is about a human protagonist who hires an android as his caregiver. With AI's prevalence in recent years, I'm fascinated by the love story between a human and a robot. Unfortunately, the series doesn't capitalize on the potential and fails to explore deeper themes. Even so, Anti Reset gets credit for tackling a complex topic. It's much quirkier than your typical romance.
Most emotional
![Unknown is one of the most emotional BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Taiwanese-Actor-Chris-Chiu-2024.jpg)
Unknown is about two orphans who grow up together. It begins with a powerful premiere. The protagonist gives food to a starving child, rescues him from the streets, and protects this vulnerable boy from gangster violence. In the background, the soundtrack amplifies every emotion to its fullest. You'll feel moved by their epic relationship journey.
![The Paradise of Thorns is one of the most emotional BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Thai-Actor-Jeff-Satur-2024.jpg)
The Paradise of Thorns is about a gay couple who runs a durian orchard. A tear-jerking moment occurs when the hospital won't recognize their relationship, so they don't receive emergency healthcare. As the story progresses, all the characters are pushed toward their emotional breaking point. Their desperation and raw anguish will resonate powerfully with viewers.
![My Sunshine is one of the most emotional BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Sosuke-Ikematsu-2024-C.jpg)
My Sunshine is about a skating coach and his two students. Most of this movie is a heartwarming journey that will make you root for the characters and their success. However, the ending makes me want to cry. A devastating turn of events destroys the precious joy and warm atmosphere, making you realize that happiness is very delicate.
Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo
![Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo is one of the most emotional BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Korean-Actor-Kim-Nu-Rim-2024-C.jpg)
Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo is about two teenagers who befriend each other in a quiet small town. Early on, the series focuses on two teens fighting against the odds. The lead is powerless to escape from his abusive home, but he finds a glimmer of hope with his new friend. Unfortunately, the melodrama becomes too convoluted later in the story, weakening the emotional impact. Nonetheless, the first few episodes are quite moving.
Most positive
![Living With Him is one of the most positive BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Ryuga-Sato-2024-C.jpg)
Living With Him is about two childhood friends who become university roommates. Although the plot may seem ordinary, the series has won me over with its wholesomeness. Both leads are remarkably down-to-earth guys with kind personalities. They support each other and behave unproblematically. As their romance develops, the story constantly highlights their empathy.
![Twilight Out of Focus is one of the most positive BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Twilight-Out-of-Focus-Character-Hisashi-B.jpg)
Twilight Out of Focus is about three couples in a high school film club. This anime shines in its introspection. The characters frequently talk about their feelings, share any insecurities, and allow themselves to be vulnerable. I love hearing their inner thoughts, which helps me understand them better. As they contemplate life and relationships, the story handles these storylines sensitively.
![Takara's Treasure is a Japanese BL series in 2024.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Eito-Konishi-2024.jpg)
Takara's Treasure is a love story between a university freshman and the senior he idolizes. Each episode contains thoughtful storylines with positive messages. While there's some occasional tension, the emotional drama never becomes too stressful. As the leads grow closer and get to know each other better, their scenes are sweet, sentimental, and sincere.
![Sugar Dog Life is one of the most positive BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Koki-Tanaka-2024.jpg)
Sugar Dog Life is a story about a police officer and a convenience store worker. Both main characters are sweethearts with precious personalities. I smile warmly at their kind gestures and oddly endearing quirks. It's easy to root for these two nice guys to become a couple. They get along, help each other, and share similar values. My happiness soars as I watch Sugar Dog Life, which maintains a cheerful momentum.
Let's Eat Together, Aki and Haru: More Please!
![Let's Eat Together, Aki and Haru: More Please is one of the most positive BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Kensuke-Takahashi-2024.jpg)
Let's Eat Together Aki and Haru: More Please! is the sequel to the Japanese BL movie, continuing the love story between two friends who live together. The leads have warm, engaging personalities. Their interactions with each other seem sweet and genuine. While there may be a little tension between them, it never turns too stressful. Let's Eat Together, Aki and Haru is careful about never letting the conflicts tarnish the relaxing vibe.
Most underrated
![Match Play is one of the most underrated BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Korean-Actor-Lee-Tae-Hyung-2024-B.jpg)
In Match Play, a famous idol falls in love with a stunt actor. Their lighthearted romance develops naturally and flows smoothly. This well-written series should have been a hit with BL fans. Unfortunately, it remains a hidden gem due to its vertical film format. Not many are willing to go out of their way to search for this series, which can only be viewed on a niche platform.
![Mr. Mitsuya's Planned Feeding is one of the most underrated BL dramas.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Taisei-Sakai-2024-B.jpg)
In Mr. Mitsuya's Planned Feeding, the couple has a 25-year age difference. The lead is in his 20s, while his love interest is in his 50s. This significant age gap will discourage some viewers from checking out the series. However, the story is actually quite thoughtful. It explores realistic themes and handles the relationship arc as respectfully as possible.
Best guilty pleasure
![Chastity High is one of the best guilty pleasures.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Japanese-Actor-Kyoya-Honda-2024-B.jpg)
Chastity High is about a prestigious academy that forbids its students from dating, and any rule breakers will be expelled. As expected from a saucy teen drama, the story is outlandish. Plot holes are glaring, while the characters behave erratically. The story frequently prioritizes shocking twists over sensible logic. Even so, I shake my head and laugh at their hilarious mess. This series entertains me because it's always so extreme.
![Eccentric Romance is one of the best guilty pleasures.](https://blwatcher.com/wp-content/uploads/Korean-Actor-Yoon-Jun-Won-2024.jpg)
Eccentric Romance is about two university friends investigating a campus killer. This murder mystery is written poorly without meaningful development. The story loses momentum once you realize it's another unproductive episode with no breakthrough. Despite the slow-paced narrative, I enjoy the couple's interactions. They make me smile or giggle at their cute, playful exchanges. At times, Eccentric Romance shows glimpses of potential here and there.
